As the 2024 baseball season comes to a close, Prep Baseball Oregon begins a new offseason series of Uncommitted Spotlights, highlighting standout performers that attended a Prep Baseball showcase event this year. Uncommitted spotlights are meant to showcase players that Prep Baseball Scouts felt showed standout tools, large improvements in overall game, or potential upside moving forward. College coaches and recruiters should be sure to keep an eye on these prospects in the coming months.

We begin our offseason Uncommitted Spotlight series by showcasing catcher Tyson McGrorty. The 101st ranked 2025 graduate in the state showed some intruiging tools at the Portland Summer ID - Session II event this summer. McGrorty showed solid fundamentals and a natural look defensively at the catcher position. The arm strength was on display, topping out at 77 MPH on throwdowns that were consistently around the bag. A solid lower half and quick transfer to throw led to an event-best 1.90 second pop time.

Offensively, McGrorty showed promise as well, featuring a smooth right-handed swing. When on time and in sync, the righty generated loud contact, peaking at a 95.3 MPH exit velocity. The medium framed athlete also ran a 7.63 second 60-yard dash time. Still an uncommitted '25 graduate, McGrorty will be a prospect to keep an eye on moving forward with a chance to play at the collegiate level.
