November 20, 2024
This week, Prep Baseball Oregon unveiled our latest 2025 Player Rankings Update. The list marked the final update for the senior class of the year, and is a culmination of many looks at players throughout 2024.
The 2025 Rankings Update marked the first of a four week stretch in rankings updates for the high school classes. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for more rankings content, including the first unveiling of the class of 2028 player rankings.
Despite minimal movement in the top ten, many players made significant jumps in the rankings after breakout performances in the late summer/early fall time frame. Below, we spotlight three players who had some of the biggest jumps up the latest rankings list.
TOP RISERS
Jace McGowan SS / 2B / Grants Pass, OR / 2025Rankings StateRank: 44 (⬆️48)
McGowan had arguably one of the most impressive showings at October's PNW Senior Games, showing out in a big way both in the workout and in-game portions of the event. Lean, medium framed athlete has some present strength that translates to the plate, where he posted a 95.6 MPH max and 86.7 MPH average exit velocity. The lefthanded swing features some bat speed for size with sudden quickness throughout. McGowan is also a smooth, natural mover defensively. A recent return from injury combined with a great performance earned him a significant jump in the rankings. |
Connor Johnston OF / LHP / Wilsonville, OR / 2025Rankings StateRank: 43 (⬆️45)
Another athlete with exciting potential, Johnston had a productive PNW State Games in the summer and has continued a steady upward trajectory in 2024. The bat in BP rounds was sound, posting an 88.1 MPH average exit velocity and finding the barrel consistently. The lefthanded bat features a hitterish approach with a short-to-long operation. Johnston is also a plus athlete, running as fast as 6.89 60-yard dash time earlier in the year, and can make more than the routine play in the outfield. He also showcased his versatile play by filling up the zone on the mound. Johnston recently committed to Bellarmine University. |
Bryson Nygren RHP / 1B / Regis, OR / 2025Rankings StateRank: 69 (⬆️41)
The lean athlete showed out well at a Preseason ID for Prep Baseball before building on it with great high school and summer showings. The 6'2 arm was more 80-82 with the heater in the preseason but worked it up to the mid 80's consistently by the end of 2024. Uses a changeup/slider combination as his secondary offerings that have taken a step forward as well. The senior recently committed to Linn-Benton CC and will be an intruiging follow moving forward. |
