Future Games Spotlight: '26 Sawyer Nelson (South Salem)

Prep Baseball Staff

Nearly 600 uncommitted underclassmen traveled to LakePoint Sports in Emerson, Ga. for the Prep Baseball Future Games this past July. After a 2023 event in which more than 375 college coaches were in attendance, a total of 425 coaches were out in full force at this year's edition. Of the nearly 600 uncommitted players, over 250 are now Division I commits (and counting), with 6 of those players being from Team PNW.

Today, we spotlight Loyola Marymount commit Sawyer Nelson, a 5'11" middle infielder out of South Salem High School. Nelson's solid all-around game was on display at the Future Games, and he filled up the stat sheet in a variety of ways. Below is a complete breakdown of the 2026 graduate, including event scouting reports and video.

Scouting Report

7/24/24

Nelson impressed with soft hands and overall feel for the middle infield positions. In the run and jump portion of the workout, Nelson showed his explosiveness and athleticism in multiple areas. The underway runner ran a 6.77 60-yard dash with a run speed max of 21.1 mph. Nelson also was in the top 50 regarding RSI (3.05) and top 65 regarding vertical jump (32.7) out of the 600 uncommitted athletes tested in these metrics. He also flashed an 83 MPH INF velo with smooth defensive actions.

On the offensive side, Nelson's hand speed (21.5) and bat speed (71.8) averages easily rank in the top 1/3 nationally for the 2026 class. Nelson impressed with a smooth left-handed stroke that consistently produced hard contact. His strong all-around game makes him a threat to make a positive impact for his team on both sides of the ball and the basepaths.
