Checking in on some former prep baseball stars in affiliated ball this season from the Beaver state.

Seth Brown, North Medford HS '11/Oakland A's

Brown made his major-league debut August 26th, 2019 and has gotten consistent at-bats with the A's ever since. In his rookie year in the big-leagues he hit .293 and over 500 plate appearances in his last full season of minor league ball he hit .297 in Triple-A. Brown has played in 63 out of 83 big-league games for the A's through June 26th so far this season. 

Brandon Drury, Grants Pass HS '10/Los Angeles Angels

After getting drafted in the 13th round by the Atlanta Braves out of high school in 2010, Drury has established himself as a big-leaguer since his major-league debut in 2015, now in his 10th big-league season. His best offensive season thus far was in 2022 when he won a Silver Slugger Award, registering an OPS+ of 134 (league average being 100) over 92 games with the Cincinnati Reds. 

Brandon Eisert, Aloha HS '14/Toronto Blue Jays

After starring locally at Aloha HS, Linn-Benton Community College, and Oregon State University, Eisert was selected in the 18th round of the 2019 MLB Draft by the Blue Jays. He recently made his MLB debut (June 17th 2024), throwing 2 scoreless innings in relief. In 2021, across 3 minor league levels, he went 6-1 with a 3.55 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP across 63 1/3 minor league innings.

Cooper Hummel, Lakeridge HS '13/Houston Astros

Currently in the big leagues with the Astros, Hummel was drafted in the 18th round from the University of Portland by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2016. In 2018 and 2019, he was selected as a MiLB.com organizational All-Star with the Brewers. Across 201 plate appearances and 45 games this season so far with the Triple-A Sugar Land Space Cowboys, he has a .301 AVG.

Adley Rutschman, Shorewood HS '16/Baltimore Orioles

Rutschman has been starring for the Orioles since his debut in 2022. In 2022, he finished 2nd in Rookie of the Year voting with 101 hits in 113 games played, he recorded an OPS+ of 131. In 2023, his star shined even brighter, becoming an All-Star and participating in the Home Run Derby in the Pacific Northwest. He won a Silver Slugger in a season where he had 20 home runs. In 2024, he currently holds a .297 AVG and is already up to 14 home runs (through June 26) with an OPS+ of 138 for the 50-30 Orioles.

Ryan Thompson, Cascade HS '10/Arizona Diamondbacks

Thompson has been a stopper this year for the Diamondbacks out of the bullpen. He has a 1.13 ERA through 32 innings pitched. His ERA+ is an astounding 362+ (league average 100) with a 0.938 WHIP, keeping the ball in the yard only giving up 0.6 HR per 9 innings. In 2023, when the Diamondbacks won the National League pennant, he threw 13 innings in the regular season posting an 0.69 ERA. In the 2023 postseason, he threw 11 1./3 innings with a 2.31 ERA.

Mick Abel, Jesuit HS '20/Philadephia Phillies 

Abel was drafted in the first round with the 15th overall pick out of Jesuit High School in the 2020 MLB Draft. In the minor leagues thus far, his career ERA has been over 4 but he has been durable, throwing over 100 minor league innings in his past two minor league seasons, and already up to 54 2/3 innings this season. He reached Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs last season and has thrown all his innings with them this season. He is the Phillies' 3rd ranked prospect according to MLB.com and the site also projects him to make his MLB debut at some point this season.

Dylan MacLean, Central Catholic HS '20/Texas Rangers

Selected in the 4th round of the 2020 MLB Draft from Central Catholic HS, MacLean had his best pro season last year with the Rangers Single-A affiliate, the Down East Wood Ducks. He went 7-5 with a 3.20 ERA in 76 innings with the affiliate. He had a 1.327 WHIP and 75 strikeouts in the season. He is currently rehabbing and shut down for 2024 on the Rangers' full-season injured list.

Dane Lais, Oregon City HS '23/San Diego Padres

Lais was selected in the 13th round by the San Diego Padres in last year's Draft. He is yet to appear in a professional game due to injury and is currently on the Padres' 60-day disabled list. 

Kenyon Yovan, Westview HS '16/Los Angeles Angels

Yovan has reached Triple-A with the Angels this year and last. With the Salt Lake Bees this season (Triple-A), he has a 3.13 ERA across 23 innings at the time of writing, with a 1.34 WHIP and 20 strikeouts.

Keynan Middleton, Milwaukie HS '12/St. Louis Cardinals

Middleton has thrown in the majors in 7 different years out of his 12 professionally since being drafted from Lane Community College. He has compiled a 3.84 ERA over 194 1/3 innings in the bigs. He is currently on the 60 day IL with the Cardinals.

Carson Kelly, Westview HS '12/Detroit Tigers

Kelly has established himself as a big-league catcher since his debut at age 21 in 2016. He is currently in his second year for the Detroit Tigers. He is currently first in the league in double plays turned at catcher with 5 and 2nd in American League caught stealing percentage at 34.1%.

Paul Wilson, Lakeridge HS '23/Detroit Tigers

Wilson has currently made 6 starts in 8 appearances for Detroit's Rookie League team in Florida. He has thrown 26 1/3 innings with 27 strikeouts through June 28th 2024.

Noble Meyer, Jesuit HS '23/Miami Marlins

Back to back Oregon HS state player of the year in 2022 and 2023. Meyer was the 10th overall pick to Miami and made a modest debut in 2023 with 11 total innings across 2 levels where he posted a 4.09 era in 11 IP while allowing 11 H, 5 ER, 7 BB, 15 K. So far in 2024 Meyer has spent time in A and A+ ball for 57 total innings and a combined 3.32 ERA. In total, he has 55 strikouts in 46 innings between the 2 levels combined. 

Aaron Zavala, South Salem HS, '18/Texas Rangers

Currently in AA for the 2024 seaeson. The former Oregon Duck has played in 65 games in 2024 with a slash of .206/.375/.361. 2022 was arguably his most successful offensive campaign in pro ball across A+ and AA where he hit a combined .277 in 111 games with 16 home runs. 

Ryan Brown, South Salem HS '19/Oakland Athletics

The former Oregon State beaver came out in 2024 with a ton of success in A ball with 46 total innings allowing just 30 hits and sporting a 3.13 ERA with 3 starts and 15 total appearances. He's punched out 50 batters to only 15 BB in A ball. He's had some stints up at the AAA as well with 4 total innings and 4 punchouts.
