2024 Prep Baseball Oregon Player of the Year: Kruz Schoolcraft
June 7, 2024
As a result of a remarkable junior season, Sunset LHP/1B Kruz Schoolcraft has earned the 2024 Prep Baseball Oregon Player of the Year award.
Schoolcraft was absolutely dominant on the mound, helping lead Sunset deep into the 6A OSAA State Playoffs where they met eventual champion West Linn in the championship game. The towering lefty finished with a 10-1 record, totaling 71.2 innings pitched. Across his 12 appearances, he allowed just 19 walks and struck out a staggering 146 batters. He allowed just 23 total hits, finishing with a 0.586 WHIP and a miniscule 0.39 ERA. The combination of physicality with an overwhelming arsenal allowed him to consistently mow down opposing lineups.
At the plate, Schoolcraft was equally dominant. Across 31 games, he finished with a .500 average and .598 on base percentage. He also slugged 7 HR and 30 RBI from the left side of the dish, all while playing superb 1B defense. As one of the top uncommitted juniors in the country, Schoolcraft should be well positioned for another stellar senior season, and should be one the favorites for the Prep Baseball Player of the Year award again in 2025.

From 5/2/24: ..."One of the top uncommitted arms in the country, the junior showcased his versatility with a strong performance in the field and at the plate on Thursday. A true 6'7" frame, stands out physically. Makes routine play at 1B with plus plus arm strength. Wider base at the plate with high intent swing. Firm front side with extension through contact. Mostly pull-side approach. Finished 2-3 with a run, RBI and a walk on the day."
