Toronto Fall ID: Quick Hits

Prep Baseball Ontario Staff

On Tuesday, October 1st, the Prep Baseball Ontario staff hosted the annual Toronto Fall ID at the Connorvale Park in Toronto, Ontario. This event featured 35+ players in 2025 - 2028 classes and allowed our staff an opportunity to get an in-depth look at the players, as well as collect updated metrics via our tech partner TrackMan. The Toronto Fall ID serves as the final chance each year for players to updated their profiles before heading indoors for the winter.

Earlier this week, we broke down the top measurable data performers from the event with our Statistical Analysis, Pitching Data Dive and Hitting Data Dive. Now, we conclude our post-event coverage within this Quick Hits article as we provide scouting notes and video on eight players who caught our staff's attention at the event.

Tanner Wiens RHP / A.N. Myer, ON / 2027

Wiens was the big winner at the 2024 Toronto Fall ID as the 8th-ranked prospect in the 2027 class put together the best bullpen of the day. Length in the frame at 6-foot-2, 170-pounds with plenty of room to fill out and add strength going forward. The fastball sat 83-84 T85 and was able to fill up the zone with the pitch. Featured a slider at 73-75mph and there’s feel for a good splitter with late fade and horizontal action at 75-77mph. Wiens will be a high-follow this upcoming summer for college coaches as recruitment slowly creeps closer for the 2027 class.

Elijah Smith OF / RHP / banting memorial hs, ON / 2028

Smith came into the event relatively unknown to our staff but made some noise quickly as he flashed some quality metrics for his age, especially with the arm. Smith started his day on the mound where he sat 81-83 T83.9 with the fastball and paired it with a vertical breaking ball at 70-72mph and changeup at 76-77mph. At the dish, the right-handed hitter has development to come but it’s a line-drive approach that utilized the middle of the field for a peak exit velocity of 81.8mph and distance of 280ft. He also ran a 7.27 60-yard dash and was up to 80mph from the outfield.

Matthew Clarke LHP / 1B / Mowat Collegiate, ON / 2025

Clarke had some of the more impactful tools at the Toronto Fall ID and posted some of the top metrics on the mound and at the plate. On the mound, the 6-foot, 205-pound left-hander sat 79-81mph with the fastball and worked with a trio of offspeed pitches (CB/SL/CH), filling up the zone throughout. At the plate, the left-handed hitter put together one of the loudest rounds as he was elevating balls to the pullside for a peak exit velocity of 90.9mph and distance of 324ft (best at event). Clarke is also eligible as a 2026 prospect and the tools/profile should draw interest from junior college programs.

Harutaro Masani RHP / 2B / York Mills College, ON / 2026

Masani was one of the top 2026s at the event and is another prospect who showed well as a two-way at the event. The 5-foot-11, 160-pound right-hander got started on the mound where he sat 78-79 T80 from a long-arm action and was able to repeat delivery well. Masani worked with a pair of breaking balls, a slider at 68-70mph and curveball at 63-65mph. During BP, Masani found the barrel often and uses a middle-of-the-field approach that allowed him to generate a peak exit velocity of 90mph and distance of 303ft. He also ran a 7.35 60-yard dash and was up to 78mph across the diamond. Masani has developed well, especially on the mound, since we saw him early on in 2024.

Rohan Persad SS / RHP / Harbord Collegiate Institute , ON / 2027

Persad continues to stand out with the way he moves on the mound and especially on the mound. Still has growing to come, standing at 5-foot-10, 150-pounds and moves gracefully on the mound with a clean and loose right-handed arm. The fastball sat 76-77mph and does a good job releasing the slider from the same slot at 66-67mph. He also featured a changeup at 74-75mph. On the positional side, Persad generated a peak exit velocity of 80.4mph and distance of 286ft, along with a 7.78 60-yard dash and 81mph arm across the diamond. The work on the mound looks more advanced right now and will be fun to watch him continue developing these next three years.

Alessandro Zayas 3B / RHP / cardinal carter catholic, ON / 2027

Zayas has matured and grown since we saw him at last year’s Toronto Fall ID and it reflected in his metrics. 5-foot-11, 170-pounds and the left-handed hitter had one of the more consistent rounds of BP at the event with a Sweet Spot % of 70 (5th-best) and peak exit velocity of 88mph. The ball is jumping off the bat with more ease as he’s grown and added strength. Zayas took his reps at third base where he was 76mph across the diamond and also ran a 7.76 60-yard dash. On the mound, Zayas has also trended upwards since the event last fall where his fastball now sits 78-80mph, along with a curveball at 64-66mph and slider at 67-70mph.

James Bader OF / RHP / Loyola Catholic, ON / 2027

Bader put together one of the stronger days we saw this week. Has physically matured since our last look growing into his 6-foot-1, 175-pound frame and flashing newfound physicality at the dish. His peak exit velocity of 90.5mph was tops among 2027’s in attendance, and good for second among all players. Peak distance of 313ft was also second on the day. James has progressed well and there’s still more to project on in the offensive profile with future adjustments and sustained growth. Toed the rubber for us as well, working in the mid 70s while spinning the curve at up to 2512rpm and flashing some of the more interesting underlying pitch metrics among attendees.

Jerome Riopelle C / 3B / Port Credit, ON / 2027

Riopelle showed well on both sides of the ball, and should be a backstop to follow through the remainder of his high school career. Led all catchers with a 2.06 pop time and worked up to 70mph from behind the dish. With strong actions, expect these numbers to trend in the right direction as Jerome adds strength to the frame. Simple operation at the plate that features a toe-tap and shows a strong path through the hitting zone. At 77%, had one of the top sweet spot percentages on the day. Under-the-radar 2027 that has improved substantially since April, and who could really pop over the winter.
