Spring Future Games Trials: Quick Hits

Nick Halcovitch RHP / 3B / Waterdown District HS, ON / 2025

Fresh off a strong showing at last week's Titans Scout Day, Halcovitch put together another quality bullpen at Friday's Pitcher-Only session. An imposing figure coming down the mound at 6-foot-5, 215-pounds, Halcovitch’s fastball worked up to 88.5mph for strikes and was complimented by a sharp slider that was up to 79mph (max spin rate of 2306rpm). The arsenal is rounded out with a changeup (max 17in. HM) and a curveball with vertical look. Rhythmic delivery with a shorter arm-action that really gets on hitters. With present velocity and near-optimal spin/movement profiles, expect a strong summer from Nick with sustained growth moving forward.

Gabriel Larocque C / RHP / St. Charles College, ON / 2026

The 2023 Junior Future Gamer out of Sudbury has continued to make leaps in his development. Gabriel worked up to a maximum exit velocity of 96.3mph, with a maximum distance of 350ft that was good for second at the event. It’s a twitchy, violent swing from the right side that has improved every time we’ve seen him. Behind the dish, his pop-time ranged between 1.83-1.95 with a catcher velocity of 83mph, both of which topped all 2026 catchers at the event.

In the evening, Larocque took the mound and worked up to 86.8mph with the fastball. The curveball shows as a reliable secondary offering, working in the low-mid 70’s with an impressive max spin rate of 2562rpm (averaged 2428rpm). With potent ability on both sides of the ball, Larocque has established himself as one of the stronger 2026’s that Canada has to offer.

Matthew Kolodziej SS / 3B / White Oaks , ON / 2025

Kolodziej, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound shortstop, continues to perform at a high level each time he attends an event. Ontario’s 7th-ranked 2025 grad put on a laser show en-route to an average exit velocity of 92.2mph and a maximum distance of 348-feet. Tall setup for an easy, relaxed stroke from the left-side with power potential as he continues to mature. Figures to stay on the left-side at the next level, currently profiling as a sure-handed shortstop with enough arm and the body to match. Still uncommitted, Kolodziej should be a high follow for college coaches throughout the summer season.

Trent Rudge RHP / Essex District , ON / 2025

With his decision to put down the bat last season, Rudge has proceeded to cement himself as one of the top arms in Ontario’s 2025 class. Explosive rotationally, yet smooth down the hill and works from a low three-quarter arm slot. Trent topped our Pitcher-Only fastball velocity leaderboard on the day, up to 89.2mph with sink and featured a tight high 70s slider. Rounds out his polished repertoire with a changeup that sat 82-84mph with 21in. of horizontal movement. One of the latest electric arms to come out of the Windsor Selects program, Rudge looks to be a potential impact arm at the next level.
