Ontario Blue Jays Scout Day: Quick Hits
April 25, 2024
On Wednesday, April 17th, the Prep Baseball Ontario staff hosted it's fourth Scout Day of the 2024 season with the Ontario Blue Jays Scout Day at The Athlete Matrix in Mississauga, Ontario. This event featured over roughly 100 players from the Ontario Blue Jays organization in the 2024 - 2029 classes and allowed our staff an opportunity to get an in-depth look at the players, as well as collect updated metrics via our tech partner TrackMan.
Earlier this week, we began our post-event coverage within our Statistical Analysis article, breaking down the top statistical performances. Today, we bring you Quick Hits, providing scouting notes and video on four players who caught our staff's attention.

2026 OF/ RHP Sam White (Uncommitted): White continues to trend upwards, and put together another strong showing at the Ontario Blue Jays Scout Day. He stands at 6-foot-1, 185-pounds with a simple, effortless load and feel for the barrel. White has a line-drive approach that worked to the big part of the field and elevated the ball throughout his round with a max exit velocity of 93mph and a top distance of 336ft. White showed well on both sides of the ball, posting an outfield velocity of 85mph which capped off a good all-around day from the young outfielder.

2024/25 RHP/1B Ryan McDonagh (Uncommitted): McDonagh has taken significant strides on the mound and it was on full display during Saturday’s event in Mississauga. Standing at an imposing 6-foot-4, 180-pounds McDonagh comes at you with a three-pitch mix of fastball, slider, and changeup. The fastball now sits 90-91mph (T92) with 2400+ rpm, he kills the spin on the changeup which sits 79-80mph with some late fade to it, and the slider sits 74-76mph and plays well off the fastball. McDonagh showed feel for all three pitches, especially the fastball which was consistently located at the top part of the zone—a strong showing from the tall right-hander who's still uncommitted and eligible both as a 2024 and 2025.

2027 LHP/1B Evan Lawson (Uncommitted): Lawson is an intriguing young two-way standing at 6-foot-1, 172-pounds with lots to dream on as he matures and grows stronger. On the mound he showed feel for his three-pitch mix of fastball, slider, changeup and located each pitch for strikes. There is a lot to like in the box where he comes set with his hands high from the left-side and utilizes a quiet load with the ability to elevate the ball consistently, he posted a max exit velocity of 91.4mph and a sweet spot % of 67. All-around it was a good showing from Lawson, who should continue to trend upward as he grows stronger.

2025/26 LHP Logan Forgie (Uncommitted): Forgie was one of the more highly anticipated arms heading into the event and he did not disappoint. Physical presence on the mound at 6-foot-1, 217-pounds Forgie boasts a diverse mix of fastball/curveball/changeup/slider, and nothing moves straight. The fastball sits 86-88mph with armside-run and was located towards the top of the zone for strikes, the curveball plays as a swing-and-miss pitch that sits 71-72mph with 2300+ rpm. The changeup sits 77-78mph with some ride and the slider sits 72-73mph with an impressive 2500+rpms and also looks to be a swing-and-miss pitch. Forgie has the ability to strike you out with multiple off-speeds that he lands for strikes consistently and he is the top-ranked left-hander in Ontario’s 2025 class and remains uncommitted (also eligible as a 2026).
