2022 rankings - the uncomitted prospects
On Monday we released updated rankings for Ontario's 2022 class. Throughout the coming week we're going to continue breaking down the entire senior class.
One thing that jumped out at our scouts while putting together the senior rankings was the amount of uncommitted talent still left on the board. There's 16 alone in the top 50 and we're going to break down five of those names that stood out this past summer and fall.
Michael Quick C / SS / Maxwell Heights, ON / 2022Rankings StateRank: 35 / POS: 5
Quick was one of the top players we saw during our fall showcase circuit and his tools stood out across the board. Runs a sub 7.00 60-yard dash with the actions, quickness and arm strength at both shortstop and catcher. His athleticism and feel for the game could see him play multiple positions at the next level but his swing from the left side is just as intriguing. It’s a line drive approach with the ability to hit balls hard to all fields. Another one of the top uncommitted seniors in the province. |
Brady Cerkowynk C / 1B / NA, ON / 2022Rankings StateRank: 20 / POS: 4
Cerkowynk, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound catcher, has stood out the past two summers at the Mississauga Tigers Scout Day with his swing and physicality from the right-side. Swings with intent and really has feel for the barrel, producing a 101 exit velocity this past August. There’s size and arm strength behind the dish but the swing and power will be what carries his game at the next level. One of the top uncommitted seniors in the province. |
David Alvarez OF / RHP / St. Joan of Arc, ON / 2022Rankings StateRank: 19 / POS: 3
Alvarez has two-way potential with his loose, and easy actions on the mound and bat speed from the left side of the plate. We’ve seen Alvarez work in the mid to upper 80’s as he has just recently seen more time on the mound over the past year. At the plate, Alvarez can definitely produce some power and as he continues to get stronger, we can see the stuff on both sides of the ball really play up. |
Cole Patrick OF / 3B / Markham District HS, ON / 2022Rankings StateRank: 32 / POS: 5
Patrick was a player we were really excited about this summer and especially once he was named to the National team camp in Ajax this past August. He went down early and was unable to participate, but we still like the hit tool from Patrick as it's a short, compact and direct swing that makes a lot of contact and uses the whole field well. Profiles as a corner outfielder who is going to hit and has a chance to really come into some power. |
Brysen Vernon OF / OF / St. Thomas of Villanova , ON / 2022Vernon really stands out at the plate and the sheer strength he portrays. Vernon hits ball hard, and we feel he is just scratching the surface with the production he is going to have at the next level. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound outfielder has now bat speed and uses an aggressive approach at the plate that very rarely sees himself get cheated. Expect power numbers to climb this summer and take him into school being someone who will do damage offensively. |
