When the name Daniel Howat comes up, we think of a player who could grow into a pure power hitter at the next level. He was top 3% in the country in both max EV and max distance (97.5 mph and 351 ft) and had a Sweet Spot % of 71.4 which is top 10%.
Although most of the balls in BP he hit were in the middle of the zone or down, he was able to drive them all with authority. Despite a small sample size, it will be interesting to see if he can use that barrel control and get on top of pitches up in the zone and drive them with the same kind of power.
Right now, Howat has an up-the-middle line drive approach. With his power, he would benefit from getting under the ball a bit more which would lead to more gaps and homeruns. We want to see how his power plays in games. He will be a close follow for us this upcoming season.
