Tournament 12 at Rogers Centre - Game two

Early on, Ontario Black and Alberta Red continued to throw up zeros through the first three innings. On the hill for Ontario was 2015 grad Dallas Taylor. Taylor, a left-handed pitcher from the Fieldhouse Pirates used all three pitches to keep Alberta’s hitters off balance. Taylor was 80-81 with his fastball and mixed in a good curveball that sat 65-67 with downward action for strikes. His line on the day was three innings pitched, zero hits, one HBP, and four strikeouts.

Ontario opened the score in the 4th with back-to-back infield singles by Michael Ong and Zach Fascia, which set the table for the left-handed power hitter Jacob Simms. Simms laced a triple in the right-centre gap plating both runners and putting Ontario out front. Eric Senior then followed up with an infield hit of his own, giving Ontario a 3-0 lead once the inning was finished.

2016 grad Eric Thrower came on to pitch the next two innings for Ontario. Thrower did his job, keeping Alberta off the board through his two innings of work. His final line was two innings pitched, zero hits, two BB, and three strikeouts.

2015 uncommitted right-handed pitcher Tyler Whitbread of Great Lake Canadians came in to preserve the win for Ontario. Whitbread was consistently 84-86 mph with his fastball while throwing his curveball at 73-76 mph with 11/5 action.

Other Notables

2016 Catcher Zach Fascia called a great game behind the plate while going 1-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Nick Howie, 2015 Outfielder from the Ontario Blue Jays organization put together quality at bats, going 1-2 with a walk and a sacrifice fly.

Uncommitted 2015 grad Eric Senior went 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Senior also made a nice running catch in foul territory late in the ballgame.
