The Next Wave Of Catchers In Ontario
Both the 2021 and 2022 classes are front-loaded at one of the most sought after spots, the catching position. In these two classes combined, four players cracked the top 10 in the rankings, three of which being left-handed hitting catchers. The future is bright behind the plate in Ontario, and we take a look at the next crop of backstops in this province.

Report: Few players made as big of a jump this summer as Gomm, as he took his offensive game to the next level, and followed his brother’s suit in cracking the national team. In August, at the Future Games, he opened eyes, displaying a tweaked swing that has allowed him to tap into his offensive potential. He has shown the ability to hit and utilize the whole field. There is some power potential, and come spring; it would be no surprise to see him start to leave the yard more regularly. His receiving and blocking ability have continued to improve, and he has the athleticism to further develop in those areas. He has also been 2.00-2.03 on pops, working up to 79 on throws down. He is currently the best catcher in the 2021 class. |
