Team Ontario Future Games Spotlight: Michael Ssemanda, OF
July 23, 2015
By Dylan Hefflinger
Ontario Editor in Chief/ Scout
On July 30th through August 1st, PBR Ontario will take a select team of players in the Classes of 2017 and 2018 to represent Ontario at the PBR Future Games in Indianapolis at Grand Park.
Players receive exposure unlike any other event for underclassmen. Last year, 100+ colleges from all over the country were in attendance, including coaches from every Division I power conference in the country. Only players who have a legitimate shot at being a Division I recruit and who have an interest in the possibility of making a verbal commitment during their sophomore or junior seasons have been considered.

Team Ontario Future Games Spotlight: Michael Ssemanda, OF
Name: Michael Ssemanda
Position: OF
Class: 2017
Height/Weight: 5-foot-10, 150 pounds
High School: Cathedral Secondary School
Summer Team(s): Ontario Royals
Past Showcase/In-Game Performances:
Date: 6/24/15
Scouting Report: Athletic 5-foot-10, 150-pound outfielder with good actions. Runs well as he was 6.97 in the 60-yard dash. Arm works in the outfield, clean actions and was 79 mph. Gets good reads on balls and has quick first step. At the plate, has loose hands and creates some whip through the zone. Slight toe tap to load, top hand gets weak and causes him to roll over at times. Sees ball well and shows barrel control. Toolsy kid, few mechanical adjustments could see Ssemanda make a big jump in his game.
Date: 1/24/15
Scouting Report: 5-foot-9, 142-pounds with lean athletic frame. Ran a 4.32 from home to first. In the outfield, Ssemanda worked from a ¾ arm slot with a velocity of 69 mph. More in the tank as he needs to quicken up his feet and exchange. Offensively, starts from evenly closed stance with relaxed hands and a small pick up and put down with his front foot, implementing minimal stride. Rocks back to load, hands get in good position with some quick twitch actions. Hands are away from body, free and easy with good bat path to contact. Stays balanced and online through swing, hands have ability to get out and get extended. Interesting player who has some tools. Will be a guy we watch throughout the summer.
Thoughts on being selected to play in PBR's Future Games and representing Ontario: "It is great and truly an honor to be selected to play in the PBR's future games. It is a wonderful opportunity that I am proud to have to be able to showcase my talents in front of many college and pro recruiters."
How has PBR helped as far as recruiting and exposure: "PBR has helped greatly as far as recruiting and exposure: PBR events have given me a great platform for me to showcase my skills to potential recruiters. Without these events I surely wouldn’t be in the position I am currently in, representing Ontario in this prestigious event."
Athletic awards or academic accolades that you have received (All-State teams, Preseason all-state teams, league honors, honor roll, etc): "In my grade nine year I was the rookie of the year of my high school's varsity baseball team and this year I was selected as the MVP. Also this year I participated in the invite only Major League Baseball scouting bureau showcase in my region. In my academics, I have been on honor roll in both grade 9 and 10."
2015 Statistics: Hitting: 24-93, .258 Avg, 3 2B, 1 HR, 10 Runs, 20 RBIs, 11 SB
What other sports do you play, describe (positions, years varsity, achievements, stats): I play basketball for Cathedral high school. I have won two city championships and have been team captain for both of those championship teams. I play guard and I average 14 points and 3 assists per game.
GPA/ACT/SAT: 3.7 GPA
Fun Fact (Anything unique about yourself): "I like spending time with my siblings and friends."
Anything else you would like to add: "I am a hard worker and team player."
