Scouting Report

5/06/19

Arnold, an athletically-talented infielder, has performed well on the big stage, and at his first ProCase, he has a chance to open some more eyes. 5-foot-9, 155-pound build with sneaky strength and evident quickness. In the infield, he moves freely, ranging both ways with direct routes before fielding and transferring cleanly. Arm works short and loose, and when he has time, he is able to gather and let off throws off in the upper 80’s. Steady infielder, and with his athleticism, shows the ability to make the difficult plays. From the right side of the box, Arnold displays impressive hand speed, allowing his bat to work effortlessly short and quick through the zone. Hips work loosey, allowing him to rotate and catch up to velocity. Line-drive hitter, but he has shown the ability to get a hold of a pitch and drive it to the pull-side. A bat-first infielder, Arnold can pick it on defense as well, he has developed into one of the premier position players in the 2020 class.

2.19.18
A small, but toolsy middle infielder who continues to get stronger to make up for his lack of size. Ran a straight and clean 7.15-second 60, showed twitchiness and good athleticism. Not a lot of movement in the box, quiet approach from the right side with quick hands through the zone. Generates good bat speed, shows great athleticism throughout. Very fluid in the field, light on his feet with proper footwork, everything looks clean. Quick transfers, shows quick arm action (up to 86 mph) and throws have carry and are online. An interesting prospect of the 2020 class, Arnold should be fun to watch as he continues to get better.

11.3.17
Arnold continues to add strength and quickness to his game while the arm velocity across the infield took the biggest jump from 79 to 85. Hands are soft and feet work well with body, staying under control with range to his left and right. Can make plays on the run while throwing from multiple arm slots and angles, showing his athleticism. At the plate, bat speed and quick twitch actions are evident, small toe turn to trigger, gets hands started while there is not a lot of movement. Rotates well through contact with high finish and gap to gap approach with lots of line drives off the barrel. Exciting young player with current tools from the 2020 class.

6.14.17
Added some weight to frame and has paid off as the middle infielder continues to mature both his actions and from a physical side. Sure handed defender who has soft actions defensively, arm works from 3/4 slot, moves through the ball with proper footwork and body control, can go to both sides and come get the slow roller. At the plate, some quick twitch involved with line drive type approach, did show some gap to gap power, stays on time and in control through contact, finishes with extension and will use the whole field. Good looking young prospect who should continue to develop and keep getting better.

2/20/17
Arnold is listed at 5-foot-8, 140-pounds. Ran a laser timed 7.46 with regular effort, looks to be a few ticks better as he gains strength. Defensively, shows feel for infield, hands work out front, worked through the ball, finished throws from clean, 3/4 slot, showed he could throw from different angles, made all the plays. Offensively, rhythm to swing with quickness in hands and wrists. Loads up on back side and works to baseball with weight transfer back to middle of body. Hands show twitchy actions and was able to get the barrel extended on few swings, showed ability to react to pitches and go with them, involves lower half and finished with two hands. Will be nice to see how Arnold develops as he matures and adds strength. Like how the hands show quickness, strength will play major part in development.
