SPRING TRAINING QUICK HITS II: DAY 3/4
Logan Cummins SS / RHP / Joan of Arc, ON / 2026
Rankings StateRank: 9 / POS: 3
Cummins, 5-foot-11, 145-pounds was dominant on the mound today in his 3 innings of work. The no. 9 ranked 2026 in Ontario used the FB almost exclusively sitting 80-83 T84 getting in-zone swing and misses. It’s an athletic, repeatable delivery from a clean arm slot. He struckout 8 on 49 pitches. Cummins backed up a strong off-season showing and is continuing to trend upwards. Strong follow in Ontario’s 2026 class.

DJ Mazzaferro SS / RHP / USS, ON / 2026
Rankings StateRank: 10 / POS: 4
Mazzaferro, had one of the better pitching performances on the day going 2 innings with 4 K’s. Athletic mover with intent, a strong front leg and a quick arm sitting 80-82 with more to come. He had good feel for his breaking-ball buckling hitters. Top 10 prospect in Ontario continues to show his upside on both sides of the ball.

Chuck Roy 1B / OF / Central Tech HS, ON / 2023
Rankings StateRank: 65 / POS: 4
Roy has continued to be one of the surprise bats we’ve seen this week down in Cocoa, Florida. Physical 6-foot, 230lbs frame with bat speed and juice to all fields, Roy continues to shoot the gaps and drive the ball with authority. He also put on an impressive round of BP, living in the lower 90’s with a max EV of 96. Roy is easily an easy pickup late in the game in Ontario’s 2023 class.
|
Clarke Needles OF / 3B / Malvern Collegiate Institute, ON / 2024Needles showed well on the mound today, flashing a quality 3-pitch mix throughout his outing. Standing a physical 6-foot-3, 190-pounds, he immediately stands out on the mound. The FB sat 82-84 T85 and a tight SL and a CH with some fading action. Also showed well in the box, driving a triple to LF. Needles will be a close follow on the mound, and in the box this week.
|
Maxwell Hillier SS / RHP / Bircmount Park Collegiate, ON / 2025Hillier put together a strong outing on the mound for NRS this afternoon at PBR Spring Training. He showed one of the better breaking balls we’ve seen so far this week. Sharp downerward action up to 2694 rpms, it has the chance to be a K pitch. With added strength and maturity, there is more velo to come. Looking forward to seeing him on the mound later this week.
|
Luke Bakker OF / RHP / Brooklin, ON / 2025Luke had himself a good day four at the PBR Spring Training event here in Cocoa. Racking up a multi-hit game against a competitive Canes squad. Slight toe-tap in his load and quick hands that allow him to generate contact. Smooth bat path that stays in the zone. Standing 6-foot-1 and 138-pounds, Bakker has plenty of room to fill out his frame and gain strength which could help increase the exit velocity, and generate more extra-base hits.
|
Luke Hatcher RHP / OF / Holy Spirit, NL / 2025Hatcher showed well on the mound this morning for the 16U Canes Canada squad. Standing 6-foot, 153-pounds there’s still plenty of time and room to add strength. Hatcher worked with a short, quick arm action that was up to 78 and flashed a 2-plane breaking-ball. Hatcher’s game is continuing to trend upwards after a strong showing at PSA Scout Day.
|
Evin O'Reilly C / 3B / Waterdown District, ON / 2024
Rankings StateRank: 99 / POS: 12
O’Reilly visually stands out on the field. A projectable 6-foot-6, 204-pound frame that has athletic movements. Has a feel for blocking pitches in the dirt, keeping the shoulders square and the ball in front of him. In return he was throwing out multiple batters trying to swipe a bag, and preventing base runners from advancing on wild pitches. In the box he has a simple approach, minimal movement in his lower half that shows some plate discipline, creating quality at bats. Hit multiple baseballs hard today despite not finding any holes.
