PBR Spotlight Game: Team Ontario vs Toronto Mets

Team Ontario kicked off the start of the PBLO season with four straight wins backed by some superb pitching performances and timely hitting. The four-game set featured two doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday in North York and Aurora. Below is game recaps for all four games.

Game 1: Team Ontario 14, Toronto Mets 8

Eight out of the nine starters all collected hits while Alexander Mackinnon was able to work the last half of the game to preserve the win, striking out five. Jacob O’Malley ended up going 2-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Mark Bernardi and Luke Turino each had a homerun.

Game 2: Team Ontario 2, Toronto Mets 1

Nolan Pennells gave up a first inning solo shot to Turino, then proceeded to put up zero after zero on the score sheet and he ended up working six innings of one run ball. Pennells established his fastball early and was able to work his off-speed over for strikes as his line on the day was 6 IP 1 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 8 Ks.

Owens CC commit Nickolon Dudhnath was 3-4 on the day with a double and two base hits while scoring a run. Kyle Watson came on in the seventh and worked a perfect inning with one strikeout to earn the save. Peter Joseph worked five innings for the Mets while filling up the zone and working around eight hits to keep the Mets in the ballgame.

Game 3: Toronto Mets 1, Team Ontario 4

Niall Windeler and Chase Porter matched each other pitch for pitch in the first three innings of this contest. It wasn’t until the fourth when Team Ontario was able to string together three straight hits and put up a three spot in the inning.

Porter never looked back as he was in complete control the whole afternoon. The 2015 uncommitted grad accumulated 11 strikeouts in his complete game two hit effort. Porter located all day, and was able to use his secondary stuff too keep hitters off balance. Brian Wowk came in relief for the second straight day and worked two efficient innings out the pen for the Mets.

Game 4: Toronto Mets 0, Team Ontario 1

Despite being one-hit, Team Ontario walked away 1-0 winners to take the four game sweep to kick off PBLO weekend.

Their only hit came in the sixth on a great bunt by Joaquin Chavarria as their lone run came on a first and third 4-6-3 double play ball in the bottom of the fourth. Team Ontario was able to get out of a none out, bases loaded jam earlier and kept the tying run from scoring in seventh as the Mets rallied to get a runner on third with only one out. Kyle Watson came in for his second save of the weekend and preserve the sweep. Mateos Kekatos went the distance for the Mets as he ended up giving one run over six innings while striking out five.
