Ontario insider: Unsigned Prospects Watch

These 6 players have shown ability and tools in 2017 to attract attention and look to build and continue with what they showed this past season. Two are currently uncommitted senior arms from the right and left side while 4 underclass prospects to look at with athleticism, strength, and live quick arms.

Uncommitted Seniors

Connor Ambrogio RHP / 3B / Catholic Central, ON / 2018

Background: As the 2017 summer season went on, Connor Ambrogio only continued to get better, and as the stocky right-hander continued to impress, be it in-game or at showcase events, the confidence continued to grow as well. Punctuating a breakout season, Ambrogio was selected as the London Badgers 18U pitcher of the year and while he is far from a finished product, he can take another big step forward in 2018. With a projectable frame and a strong lower half, Ambrogio pitches from a high-¾ arm slot and is at his best when he consistently keeps the ball down in the zone and utilizes the downhill plane effectively.

His fastball sits 80-82 and topped out at 84 mph with some late running action. While his changeup is still a fringe pitch, Ambrogio’s overhand curveball is the separator. A true 12/6 curveball that sits between 68-72. Connor’s breaking ball is a pitch that he trusts in any count. Late into the season, the six-foot righty began experimenting with a cutter and as he continues to get stronger and more athletic on the mound, and sharpens his secondary stuff, 2018 may be yet another big year for the Badgers senior.
