Ontario Top Ten Breakdown: Top Viewed Prospect Profiles - #2 Andy Yerzy
#2 Andy Yerzy, C, 2016 (Notre Dame commit)
The Present: Andy Yerzy most definitely meets the eye test when he walks into the ballpark. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound, left-handed hitting catcher prospect has established himself as the top high school prospect in Ontario for the class of 2016. Yerzy has really changed his body over the last 5-6 months as he has really toned up his lower half as his size and strength is evident. He has a loose and easy swing with natural lift, and he is able to backspin balls in the gaps with power to all fields. He moves well behind the plate given his frame, the hands work well as he really has become a strong receiver over the years. Arm strength is something Yerzy displays frequently along with accuracy as he transfers well and his ball stays online with flight through the bag.
The Future: Yerzy was an early sign with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in 2015 and will have the watchful eye of pro scouts following him while he is with the Junior National Team and the Toronto Mets this spring. He has the opportunity to be a high pick as his talents and size meet the expectations of what a pro should look like out of high school. Whether he can be persuaded to ignore the commitments to South Bend will be a decision he and his family will make, and the more he performs this spring, the tougher that decision will most likely be.
