Ontario Insider: Uncommitted Underclass Spotlight - David Mendham, C
Name: David Mendham
Position: C
Class: 2017
Height/Weight: 6-foot-1, 160-pounds
High school: Catholic Central Secondary
Club Team: Ontario Nationals
Scouting Report: 2017 grad at 6-foot-1, 160-pounds with lean athletic body to add strength gains and will mature and fill out as he becomes older. Mendham has a smooth swing from the left side of the plate. Hits from a crouched position, hands back in a good spot to hit, loads back with body, small bat waggle to load with hands, shows some looseness to his swing while generating good power to the ball in his lower half while staying balanced at contact. The bat path works well to the ball and the head of the bat stays through the hitting zone. Can spray the ball and use the whole field, gap power at the moment and will be a line drive guy who should get his fair share of doubles. Behind the dish, he sets up properly, receives the ball clean and gains ground on his throws down to second. Transfer is clean and ball shows carry to the bag. Believe there is more in the tank as Mendham can gain arm strength as well become more athletic in his lower half as he gets stronger. Knows the game, seems to understand his responsibilities from a defensive side and has a presence on the field and with his team.
