Ontario Insider: Super 60 Recap - Max Wright

By Chris Kemlo and PBR Staff
Ontario Scouting Director

With more than 120 scouts in attendance, the 14th Annual Super 60 Pro Showcase delivered many highlights by prospects from 19 different states on Sunday, Feb. 7 at The Max in McCook, IL. Throughout the coming weeks we will produce content highlighting the top performers, the biggest risers and much more from the event, but today we take a quick look at the best statistical performances, which includes two event records.

Although statistics only paint a partial picture of how well a player performed, these numbers are pretty telling for early February:

Ontario Insider: Super 60 Recap - Max Wright

Max WrightName: Max Wright

Super 60 Evaluation: Wright came into the event with an unknown feeling to many of scouts across the states, but he made sure that they took notice. Max came into the Super 60 in great shape at 6-foot-2, 205-pounds with physicality and strength. He showed well during  his rounds of batting practice with an easy swing with a good bat path, barreling up balls that sprayed across the field. He had a presence in the box and had a hitterish vibe about him. Created good torque and extension on a few balls that jumped off the bat. Defensively, Wright was accurate with most throws, and although he didn’t post his best pop times with his 2.00, he still showed encouraging tools behind the plate and softness in his hands. Max ran a 7.29 and has showed better and is usually right around a sub 7.00

Anonymous scout quote on the Wright: “I really like the body and swing. Kid is going to hit, that I know.”

Draft Outlook: It is still early to tell what the book will be on Wright come June. He needs to refine some things behind the plate and continue to work on his arm strength but we do know that Max is a hitter. He always has been and that is pretty evident it’s not going to change. He has had eyes on him in the province, but the opportunity yesterday to be seen from scouts across the country will no doubt be huge for Max. The toughest job a scout or anyone in baseball for that matter is to know if someone is going to hit or not. We can never be a 100% sure but a lot of people have a good feeling that Max will hit at the next level, whether that is Indiana State or pro ball is still yet to be seen.

PBR Ontario: What are your thoughts on the Super 60?
Wright: I thought the Super 60 was an awesome event. The way they made it fun and the amount of talent and the facility were all great. Overall it was a really good experience.

PBR Ontario: Thoughts on the amount of scouts in attendance?
Wright: The number of scouts there to watch was unbelievable. I’ve never seen so many scouts in one place, easily over 100 there. It is a really good event to be seen because of the sheer number of scouts in attendance.

PBR Ontario: Thoughts on this amount of talent in one place at one time?
Wright: All of the players that were there were really good. Everyone was there for a reason and that was pretty evident once I arrived.
