Ontario Insider: 2018 Stocking Stuffers - Seniors You Need to Sign
With the holiday season fast approaching, we take a look at some uncommitted players from the 2018 class that could be perfect gifts for the right college program that is looking to make additions to their recruiting class. Three of these players are currently on the Canadian Junior National Team while the other two are elite players in the province with the tools and skill level to be picked up rather quickly in this years recruiting class.

Denzel Clarke OF / Everest Academy, ON / 2018Report: If you are looking for athleticism, speed, and someone who can lock down centre field for the next three to four years, you can wrap a bow around Denzel Clarke. The lean 6-foot-4, 190-pound right-handed hitter and member of the Canadian Junior National Team is one of the top uncommitted players in the nation at the moment. Still lots of maturing to do physically, Clarke’s path is often compared from those who know him best in the area to the likes of Tristan Pompey, the junior outfielder from Kentucky and potential first round pick this June. Clarke is still raw with the bat and at times can lack the approach and watch to many pitches, but to see where he has come from, the strides he has made over the last 18 months, and his tools and actions all play at a high level, it’s easy to see why people get excited about the future for Clarke and what he could be. |
Griffin Hassall RHP / Bill Crothers, ON / 2018Rankings StateRank: 7 / POS: 4
Report: Hassall, another member of the Junior National Team, has somewhat fallen under the radar, but be sure to whoever ends up with the 6-foot-3, 180-pound righty will be getting someone with big game experience and the ability to throw strikes and pound the zone with three pitches. Hassall started a must win game for Canada at the World Championships this year and the senior has always seem to rise to any challenges. With an easy 20 plus pounds to add to his long frame, Hassall is sure to be a breakout performer at the next level with the ability to get outs and eat up innings. |
Ryan Faragher C / 1B / St. Thomas Aquinas, ON / 2018Rankings StateRank: 8 / POS: 2
Report: Faragher is physically strong at 6-foot-2, 200-pounds and can see him adding good weight as he matures while keeping his athleticism and flexibility. Another National Team member, the right-handed bat shows power and loud contact while he lost a probably close to 200 at-bats due to injury near the end of 2016. With strong leadership qualities behind the plate, the former Future Games participant is sure to be a welcoming addition to any roster while the skills, talent, and character all match up in what every coach looks for when looking to fill up his catching core. |
Diego Dominguez RHP / ON / 2018Rankings StateRank: 18 / POS: 9
Report: Dominguez has been a very interesting prospect over the last year, and finished off how he started with a strong performance in Jupiter as all signs show to him being someone who could add to his velocity and come out the gates hot in 2018. For Dominguez, it’s a loose and athletic delivery with a quick arm out front with a clean lower half. The fastball has been up to 88 and typically sits in the 83-86 range with good life out the hand. Lots of room to get stronger at 5-foot-11, 165-pounds, no reason why Dominguez can’t be a dominant force in his league this summer while being able to contribute early on in his collegiate career. |
Anthony Vavaroutsos OF / 1B / Mary Ward, ON / 2018Rankings StateRank: 28 / POS: 3
Report: Vavaroutsos is a left on left outfielder who can play all three positions but sees most of his time currently in right field. Can also step in when needed and be an above average first baseman. Current gap to gap power right now with one of the better feels for the barrel in his class. Not flashy a flashy player with off the chart numbers but a glue type guy who always seems to do the right thing on the baseball field while playing the game with a very high IQ. The bat is quick through the zone with rhythm and balance is his swing. Can bunt for a hit and steal a bag when asked to, Vavaroutsos is a steady player who can complement any team and play a part in a winning program. |
