Niagara Uncommitted Open: Sattz's Standouts
April 13, 2022
On Friday, October 8th, our staff crossed the border into New York for our Niagara Preseason Uncommitted Open hosted at Niagara University. The event gave our staff a look at uncommitted 2022s and 2023s from Ontario while giving the players a chance to compete in live-game action on a Division I field, in front of multiple local college coaches in the Niagara/Buffalo area.
We had several good showings from the 2023 class and PBR Canada Scout, Ryan Sattz, takes a look at four of them below.
Sawyer Pace 2B / SS / Tecumseh Vista Academy, ON / 2023Pace, a 6’0 172lbs MIF opened a lot of eyes with his play on both sides of the field. In the infield the hands work smooth and quick with an arm that has carry behind it. During his round of BP the swing is geared towards a gap-to-gap approach. The swing is balanced and twitchy, stays flat and through the zone with good extension on his hits. During the intersquad Pace racked up a multi-hit day living up the middle on his hits. Pace also showed well in the infield, making all the plays at SS. A reclass 2023 with a solid overall game that keeps improving will be one to watch for schools looking for an infielder.

Shaver, a 5’10 170lbs MIF/OF had a solid overall day at the Niagara Preseason Uncommitted showcase in Niagara Falls, NY. Was a standout in the field topping out at 86 mph in the outfield displaying a short quick arm action while keeping the ball low and accurate. In the infield the feet have improved since the fall with quicker actions and a stronger arm which got up to 82 mph. The bat is a big standout in Shaver’s game. During his round of BP, Shaver worked up the middle to opposite field staying quick and on plane with his barrel. In the intersquad the speed played a factor beating out a couple infield singles as well as showing good range in the outfield. Will definitely be a name to look out for as the season is just around the corner.

Andrew Bishop 1B / 3B / Resurrection HS, ON / 2024Bishop, a 6’3 190lbs corner infielder, showed a loud bat from the left side throughout the day. In the infield the body standout at first with a tall athletic frame that is still growing. Moved well at first with a glove that can pick it at the corner. During bp the swing stood out with lots of barrels to the pull side gap staying in his legs and on plane. A big bat from the left side that continues to improve while having the top exit velo of the day at 94 Mph. During the intersquad Bishop’s bat was on full display with a couple base hits on the day.
