Scouting Report

Report: There’s no doubt that this year is a big one for Utah commit Elijha Hammill. We’ve known about Hammill for some time now, as he was in Jupiter at 14, was on our Future Games team the following two summers, and now he’s got his eyes on the draft. Now at 5-11, 195-pounds, Hammill has primarily played shortstop for years, with stops at second base, third base, and the outfield as well. An above average runner, his speed plays well in-game, and while it isn’t overly smooth, Hammill hits in-game as well. A switch-hitter with some juice from both sides, he’s short and quick to the ball, shows good hand-eye, and barrels. Defensively, it’s still a bit stiff in the infield, but Hammill has some arm strength, so he could move around the field and be just fine.

Future: The biggest question with Hammill is where he’s going to end up on the diamond. Right now, he’s making his case to stay in the infield (he makes some plays). There isn’t a ton of flair, but he gets the job done. From a physical standpoint he’s likely close to his peak, which is alright considering he’s got size and strength right now. He also ended the season strong at the plate, so it wouldn’t come as a shock to see him make some noise next spring.
