Cameron Gurney C / SS / Pauline Johnson, ON / 2022Rankings StateRank: 9 / POS: 2
Report: Arguably one of the top hitters in Ontario’s 2022 class, Gurney has emerged as one of the most intriguing prospects across the country this summer. A product of the Fieldhouse Pirates, Gurney burst onto the scene with his strong 6-foot, 180-pound frame, and juice from the left side of the plate. A converted shortstop, he hasn’t been behind the plate for long, but the arm strength is present and he has shown signs that he has a a chance to stick. Right now, the stock is definitely in his bat with his ability to spray the ball from pole to pole while being an extra base threat that can leave the yard. He’s poised to have a solid offseason that can turn him into a legit power threat once the spring rolls around. Future: Gurney is new to catching, and with that comes some fine-tuning of his game. He has got to handle a lot of the higher end arms in the province a couple weekends ago, and with increased mobility, flexibility and athleticism, he could bloom into one of the more well-rounded players at the position. Right now the game revolves around his bat, but if the catching side of things comes forward, he has a chance to be special.
