Markham Mariners Scout Day: Quick Hits
October 27, 2022
On Saturday, October 22nd, the PBR Ontario staff returned to Durham Campus Fieldhouse in Oshawa for our 6th Scout Day of the fall, this time with the Markham Mariners organization.
The event featured roughly 25 players from the organization with the majority of the players being from the 2024 - 2026 classes. The talented group from Markham ran through a pro style workout utilizing our state-of-the-art technology partners with Swift Performance and TrackMan. Below, we continue to break it all down with video and analysis on five of the standouts.

Ethan Morris LHP / 1B / St Charles College, ON / 2024Rankings StateRank: 57 / POS: 7
2024 left-hander Ethan Morris was the most polished arm on the mound at the Mariners Scout Day, joining us from Sudbury. Athletic look at 6-foot-2, 195-pounds with a long, loose arm that works from a ¾ arm-slot. Morris sat 80-83 T83.8 with armside run and worked downhill with the top extension on the day. Offspeed stuff still developing but flashed its potential with a few tight sliders with more of a good cut action right now. One of the better upper class players we’ve seen this year from Northern Ontario.

Bryce McKee RHP / 3B / Bill Crothers Secondary, ON / 20232023 3B/RHP Bryce Mckee was a standout on both sides of the ball with strength and projectability. 6-foot-2, 185-pound left-handed hitter who put together a mature round, catching the ball out front with consistent hard contact. His average exit velocity and max distance were both by far the best at the event. Also stood out on the mound with a fastball that sat 81-82mph along with a good, high spin breaking ball. Unsigned senior that should draw some interest from junior college coaches.

Corrado Nucifora OF / 3B / Sinclair, ON / 20252025 OF Corrado Nucifora stood out with some of the looser actions among underclassmen. 5-foot-11, 145-pound left-handed hitter is wide in the box and works gap-to-gap with a loose swing that has a lot of moving parts right now. Found the barrel throughout his round and will benefit as he begins to add strength. Also posted the top outfield velocity of 77mph and the loose arm translated to the mound where he sat 73-76 T77.

Keenan Maharaj 1B / RHP / Bill Crothers Secondary School, ON / 20252025 1B Keenan Maharaj was one of the top underclassmen at the dish, working with a balanced and quiet left-handed stroke. Already some strength in his game at 6-foot, 185-pounds and was making solid contact throughout his round, working to the middle and pull side. Cuts off his swing a little bit but he handles the bat well and should be able to tap into some more of his strength and he develops.
|
Junichi Yuki C / RHP / Bill Hogarth Secondary School, ON / 20252025 C/RHP Junichi Yuki put together one of the best overall days with solid performances at the dish, behind it and on the mound. Was strongest behind the dish with consistent pop-times, ranging from 2.06 - 2.19. Quick release with accurate throws and 68mph arm. 5-foot-9, 150-pound right-handed hitter consistently worked the middle of the field with line drive contact. High-waisted RHP who filled up the zone and has depth to the breaking ball with top-to-bottom action.
