PBR Canada Collegiate Performers of the Week
Every week, we'll highlight one hitter and one pitcher to be our PBR Canada Collegiate Players of the Week which is powered by Mizuno. This is the fourth week and really full of outstanding performances as the D1 season kicked off and Canadians were all over the box scores.
The decisions are going to get tougher and tougher every week, but there is no denying these two players in week 4 of our Canadian Collegiate Performer of the Week.
THE OFFENSIVE SIDE
Hitter of the Week
David McCabe, UNC Charlotte
Background: David McCabe’s ability to impact the baseball and hit for power made him an exciting prospect out of Ontario’s class of 2019 where ranked No. 9. The Ontario Blue Jays product attended the ProCase in 2018 and 2019 as well as the Future Games in 2016. McCabe has always shown he can be a force in the middle of a lineup with his tool and the power that comes with it but he’s really sharpened the defensive side of things over the past several years.
Performance: McCabe really flexed his muscle in the first of a three games set against William & Mary this weekend as he belted two home runs with adding a double, 4 RBI and a stolen base. Over the next two games he was able to add three more hits, including a home run, a walk and 2 RBI. The Oshawa native is now batting .346 and is a leader offensively for the 49ers who remain undefeated through their first six games.

ON THE MOUND
Pitcher of the Week
Sam Turcotte, Stonybrook University
Background: If you go way back to 2016, Turcotte was one of the more intriguing pitchers in the province and ranked third among right-handers behind Austin Shields who signed with the Pirates that year and Jordan Balazovic who’s now one of the Twins top prospects. Turcotte went through it all as a Canadian amateur as he pitched for the Junior National Team in 2016, attended the T12 tournament as well as the ProCase. The former Terrier is currently a grad student with Stonybrook.
Performance: Turcotte was handed the ball in Stonybrook’s season opener and dominated the Sacred Heart hitters over his seven innings of work. The Toronto native allowed just one hit and one run during his outing while striking out nine with no walks. Turcotte had a live arm when we watched him back in 2016 and now five years later he’s proving it’s still there. You can't imagine a start to the season much better than what Turcotte provided his team with last weekend.
