2023 PBR Spring Training MV-Pitcher: 2024 LHP Hudson White
April 5, 2023
With PBR Spring Training now two weeks in the rearview mirror, along with our post-event stat stories, our staff has begun rolling out post-event honours, starting with the MVP, now the MV-Pitcher and the All-Tournament Teams will begin rolling out tomorrow.
Our second individual honour going out is the Most Valuable Pitcher. The award was selected using a combination of in-game performance and stats, along with the quality of stuff we saw from the arm.
The 2023 PBR Canada Spring Training Most Valuable Pitcher goes to Newfoundlander and 2024 LHP Hudson White of Canes Canada.
White was tabbed as a can't miss arm down in Florida and he lived up the hype following a strong winter in weight room where he looks to have gained significant strength. The Illinois State commit had one start for Canes Canada, working two innings in dominant fashion with a ton of swing/miss on both his fastball and breaking ball. The fastball sat comfortably at 86-88mph T89, along with the curveball at 72-74mph. He set the tone in his first inning, punching out the side in order and wrapped up the second inning rather quickly, as well.
"Hudson White has continued to trend upwards since we saw him at the Future Games this summer and his performance at Spring Training may have been the best we've seen from him to-date," says Assistant Director of Canada, Cam Black-Araujo. "Although we only saw two innings from him, it was no doubt the strongest two innings we saw from any arm at Spring Training. Impressive start to his 2023 season and he'll now look to create some noise throughout the remainder of the spring/summer as he's slated to pitch at several national-level events including Best of the West in May for the PBR Canada Selects."

Scouting Report
2024 LHP Hudson White (Illinois State) is one of the highest-profile arms here in Cocoa and didn’t disappoint in the nightcap at the stadium. Added strength was evident on the mound at 6-foot-4, 217-pounds and he pounded the zone with the fastball at 86-88 T89. Had plenty of swing/miss on the pitch and coupled it with a tight breaking ball that had shape at 72-74. Attackers hitters and made quick work on the mound. Impressive start to the year one of the top prospects on the East Coast and also swung the bat well.
2024 LHP Hudson White was back to his regular form on Sunday, looking noticeably stronger since the Future Games, now standing at 6-foot-4, 195-pounds. He pounded the glove with a fastball at 85-88mph and an improved breaking ball with late, downward action at 71-73mph. Also flashed a slider and splitter. Really intriguing overall package with the size, left-handedness, stuff and mechanics. White was the main attraction at the event as they saved the best last and with all the eyes in the building on him, he didn’t disappoint. One of the top uncommitted arms in the country.
After seeing White at the Future Games, we were looking forward to seeing White again. While still raw on the mound there is lots to like from the 6-foot-4, 195-pound lefty. Uncommitted 2024 with quick and whippy arm action and lots more in the tank. At the dish, White’s bat impressed in Niagara where he collected multiple extra-base hits. Looks comfortable from the right side and carries the barrel through the zone. Good feel to hit with some juice. Projectable young body that will be exciting to watch as he continues to mature on both sides of the ball.
