The Edmond Santa Fe Regional is scheduled to begin on Wednesday May 1st and it features two of the hotter teams in 6A and a three seed with the type of arm that can neutralize an opponent when he is on.  Edmond Santa Fe and Mustang always seem to find themselves in them mix at the end of the season and both teams will look to hold off a tougher than usual Putnam City West squad and Lawton program to face each other with a trip to the State Tournament next week.   We breakdown each team's record, players to watch, and a deeper look at each team as they head into this week's regional and try to make it to the state tournament next week.

Coach Webb has been extremely successful in his first season at the helm and the Wolves are hot going into the postseason. Santa Fe just got back one of the top ‘25 prospects in the country in Carson Brumbaugh which makes them even scarier as they have been successful this spring in the month they were without him. He will help them both offensively and on the mound but has had a breakout spring from sophomore RHP Savion Sims. The lengthy 6 '7 righty has gotten up to 96 this spring and is coming off a perfect game game just a week ago that saw the Wolves clinch the 6A-1 district title. The reason the Wolves have had success this spring is due to production in the order from one through nine and have shown the ability to execute in all situations. Santa Fe plays clean defense and rarely strikeout, usually putting the pressure on the defense forcing them to make plays. The Wolves are dangerous going into the postseason and we are interested to see how deep of a run they could potentially make.

Coach Patterson and the Broncos started off slowly this spring but have picked up over the last month and a half and have really picked up their stride. The Broncos went on a 7 game losing streak after winning their opening game but since then have gone 21-5 picking up a few impressive wins along the way. The Broncos have been led by senior lefty Carlos Lopez who has been able to impact the game both offensively and on the mound. Another impact arm for the Broncos is senior RHP Jackson Picklesimer who has been lights out as of late only giving up 4 runs in his last 6 starts in district play. Mustang has been able to get production out of all nine spots of their order as of late, which makes them a tough out in regional play whoever they have to face.

Coach Wright and the Patriots have won 8 straight and seem to be trending in the right direction going into regional play. The Patriots have a game changer in senior Jaxon Hyde-Herrera who has the ability to leave the yard at any time and is one of the best catch and throw backstops in the country. Hyde-Herrera will also work in the low to mid 90s on the mound and has the ability to compete against some of the better lineups in 6A when the offspeed is dialed in and is commanding the zone. The Patriots also have a few players with experience that hit at the top of the order that can help score some runs. We are interested to see what the Patriots can do this postseason especially since they are on a win streak headed into regional play.

LAWTON WOLVERINES

OVERALL RECORD: 2-29

DISTRICT RECORD: 1-13

POWER 25 WINS: 0

Coach Prater and the Wolverines haven’t had the most successful 2024 season, but they have many positives that they can take away at this point. This Lawton team is on the younger side, so they were able to get a ton of valuable experience which will continue to grow as they play in the postseason. The ability to gain this experience will be big for the future for the Wolverines as they look to improve with many players returning next season.
