The Choctaw Regional will be one of three 6A regionals that kick off on Wednesday May 1st featuring top ranked Choctaw and a surging Norman squad and young but feisty Southmoore program.  Choctaw has arguably the best resume headed into the week, Norman is on quite the streak in the last 15 games, Southmoore will look to their younger roster to pick up a couple of upsets, and NW Classen will try and play spoiler in a field trying to make it to next week's state tournament.  We breakdown each team's record, players to watch, and a deeper look at each team as they head into this week's regional and try to make it to the state tournament next week.

Coach Hawk and the Yellowjackets have been at the top of our Power 25 rankings for the last few weeks for good reason. Choctaw has been consistently putting together dominant performances against some of the state’s best all spring and have handled business when they have had to. The Yellojackets have experience all over the diamond that have held consistency throughout the spring. The rotation is headlined by a 2 man wrecking crew of senior RHP Easton Teel and junior LHP Gaige Albright who both work in the low to mid 90s with command. They typically rely on two-way Drake Fittro to close games and have gotten big innings from juniors Reuben Robinson and Hunter Fullbright as well. Junior Cash Williams has led the offensive charge this spring as the Tennessee commit is one of the most interesting prospects in the ‘25 class with elite pop times and a unique blend of power and speed. Senior Drake Fittro has been consistently barreling baseballs all spring out of the leadoff spot and has played a big center field for the Yellowjackets. Choctaw has also gotten consistency out of Easton Teel and Cooper Zeiders in the middle of the lineup as RBI threats. The Yellowjackets have to be considered as one of the favorites to win it all if they can continue to produce how they have this spring.

Coach Merrell and the Tigers have racked up plenty of wins this spring despite the lack of strength of schedule. Even though they haven’t won many games against quality opponents, they have played a lot of very talented teams close in losses to Power 25 opponents. The Tigers are led by senior Dax Noles, who’s physical presence at the plate has made him one of the top RBI threats in the Norman lineup. Seniors Rylan Schuman and Trace Redwine have made a massive impact at the top of the Tiger lineup as well with Redwine also headlining the starting rotation. Norman enters the postseason red hot winning 14 out of their 15 games and will look to carry that momentum over to make a run at next week's state tournament.

Coach Aguirre and the Sabercats have overcome a few rough patches in their schedule and seem to be playing some of their better baseball down the stretch. Southmoore helped get over a few losing streaks including a 6 game losing streak that saw them rack up a 5 game winning streak about a week later. The Sabercats were consistent in district play with a .500 record in arguably the toughest 6A district on the western side of the state. Southmoore is on the younger side but have players that have experience playing in the postseason both in the lineup and on the mound. If the Sabercats can throw strikes and manufacture runs, don’t be surprised if they can win a few games in regional play.

NORTHWEST CLASSEN KNIGHTS

OVERALL RECORD: 17-16

DISTRICT RECORD: 2-12

POWER 25 WINS: 0

Coach Todd and the Knights struggled in 6A play this year but were able to pick up a plethora of wins when playing against some smaller school opponents. The Knights went 12-3 in non-6A games this spring showing they are capable of winning games. This year’s Northwest Classen team is on the younger side and will gain some valuable experience in postseason play where they will get to test their luck against some of the better teams in the 6A class.
