Prep Baseball Report Oklahoma was able to catch some of the class A and B high school fall actions this year, including parts of both state tournaments. Today, PBR Oklahoma will take an in-depth look at three middle infielders from the class A fall state championships that could all excel at the next level.
Trejan Blue, 2B/3B, Byng HS (2017)
A 6-foot-3, 200-pound thick bodied athlete. Offensively, right-handed hitter, gap to gap approach, strength in the swing, shows easy opposite field pop. Balanced, quiet, slightly wide set-up, smooth load, short stride, late heel plant for timing, some length, high finish. Ran a 4.55 sec home-to-first. Defensively, accurate arm with some strength and carry, average hands and feet.
Tyler Frank, SS/RHP, Tushka HS (2017)
A 5-foot-11, 165-pound lean, athletic build. On the mound, controlled delivery, high leg kick, small arm circle, high-3/4 slot, excellent strike thrower. Fastball keeps its plane, sits 83-84 mph, can touch an 85 mph. Curveball ranges 69-72 mph, 11/5 shape. Overall, a very good strike thrower. Offensively, right-handed hitter, middle of the field approach, compact swing. Balanced stance, some rhythm, small stride, short to contact, flat, on plane through extension. Defensively, average hands, slightly above average arm with carry, high level awareness.
Jake Sconyers, SS/OF, Wister HS (2017)
A 5-foot-10, 165-pound wiry, athletic build, strong hands. Offensively, right-handed hitter, middle-pull approach, some bat speed, shows good pull pop. Quiet, athletic set-up, slight squat, small load, hands drop, slight leg kick, short stride, some length in the swing, slightly up-hill path. Defensively, average hands and arm, moves well laterally on the infield. Good runner, reported 6.6 60. Athletic enough to cover the outfield well.
