Projection is often is no perfect science, but it is often the determining factor when evaluating players of similar skill levels. Today Prep Baseball Report Oklahoma takes an in-depth look at three pitchers with high ceilings.
Holden Hopkins, LHP, Norman North HS
A 6-foot-5, 185-pound left-handed pitcher, long, athletic build, extremely projectable. A smooth delivery, moderate leg kick, steps slightly across his body, 3/4 slot. Fastball sits 80-82, downhill plane. Breaking ball has sweeping action with 2/8 shape, 67-69 mph.
Colton Hunter, RHP, Leedey HS
A 6-foot, 175-pound average build with some strength. A controlled, low effort, easy delivery, above the belt leg kick, high-3/4 slot, fluid arm action, good command of three pitches. Features a fastball that keeps its plane, 81-83, touched an 84. Changeup shows some fade ,73-74 mph. Curveball has rolling action with 11/5 shape, 70-72 mph.
Kaden Kirby, RHP, Oklahoma Christian Academy
A 6-foot-1, 165-pound slender build, long legs. A smooth, up-tempo delivery, high leg kick, fluid arm circle, fast arm out front, 3/4 slot. Fastball flashes arm-side run at 79-82 mph, has touched 85 mph. Slider shows depth at times, 67-72 mph. Changeup is thrown with fastball arm speed with fade, 72-74 mph.
