PBR OK OSSAA Team Previews: Jenks Trojans
February 21, 2023
The Oklahoma high school baseball season kicks off on Feb. 20th for A-B, and March 1st for 2A-6A. Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we’ll be publishing our team previews ahead of the 2023 spring season, touching on programs spanning all state classifications, leading into a countdown through the official PBR Oklahoma Preseason Power 25 Rankings.
We’ve submitted a Preseason Questionnaire to high school head coaches across the entire state. Their responses have been flooding in and we’re using the detailed insight they’ve provided as well as our own coverage on players in our team-by-team preseason analysis.
Team: Jenks Trojans
2022 Record: 34-7
Classification: 6A
Head Coach: Ryan Hendricks
Years at the Helm: 1
OUTLOOK
Coach Hendricks takes the reigns as the Head Coach for the Trojans in 2023 and has a talented roster to look to get back into the State Tournament. After winning the Title in 2021, the Trojans dropped their opener in the State Tournament in a crazy back and forth affair with Deer Creek ending their promising campaign. They have a few holes to fill mainly in the ace role that was previously held by Jack James as well as the production from former centerfielder Rhylan Wright and third baseman Jaxon McCauliff. Even with those holes to fill the Trojans have the type of roster that is built for the postseason with multiple guys capable of taking over games on the mound and a high caliber defense. Coach Hendricks will have his pick of multiple guys that can handle district starting duties and should have a fairly deep bullpen to help stretch the game. Offensively the Trojans have a strong mix of athletes with speed and a few guys with power making them a tough out 1-9. The Trojans have one of the more aggressive offensive attacks with speed on the bases and should be primed to score a lot of runs in 2023. They will need to continue to develop the bench depth needed to make it through the year but should have enough impact players with a ton of experience to help make them contenders for a State Title run.
IMPACT PLAYERS
Chandler Fowler, INF/RHP, 2023, Fort Scott commit
Fowler has been in the lineup and on the mound for the Trojans for the past couple of years and returns as one of the leaders on both sides of the ball. Fowler can play anywhere on the infield with smooth actions and enough arm strength to play the left side and shows sneaky pop with the bat. Fowler's best offensive attributes is his advanced barrel control that allows him to handle high end pitching as well as cover the entire plate. The Trojans will also rely on him as a starter on the mound where his mid to upper 80's fastball can play up at a high level and he's shown the ability to spin the breaking ball to keep hitters off balance.

Walls has made a name for himself on both the gridiron as well as on the baseball diamond and returns to the Trojans as their everyday shortstop from a year ago. Walls has made continuous strides both defensively as well as at the plate making him one of the more dynamic prospects in the class. Walls shows smooth actions up the middle and has a big arm that allows him to make plays deep in the hole. He has a strong hit tool and more power than his size would suggest thanks to a loose swing with strong bat speed. On top of his top of the order duties and manning the important shortstop position, Walls is counted on the mound as well where he's bumped the fastball up to 88 in the past and has a short slider to compliment. The Trojans will count on his athleticism on both sides of the ball this year and should be one to keep an eye on in the future as he continues to gain experience.

Logan Tibbett, C/RHP, 2023, Amarillo College commit
Tibbett burst onto the scene in 2022 with one of the biggest breakout performances with the bat in the area. Tibbett has a projectable frame at 6-foot-3 and 190-pounds and strong balance at the plate. He has a line drive approach that he uses with his longer levers to cover the plate and uses a line to line approach. Behind the plate he's shown a very quick release even from his larger frame and shown some very quick pop times in the past. Where he might make his biggest impact in 2023 is in his growing role on the mound. Tibbett was lightly used in 2022 on the mound and should see an increased role where he's been up to 89 mph according to preseason reports. Handling catching duties and middle of the order responsibilities as well as providing some depth on the mound is a tough ask out of a high school player but Tibbett has shown the ability to handle it in the past and with his experience could be one of the most important players to their team in the state.

Primeaux returns to the lineup as the everyday first baseman after a strong sophomore campaign for the Trojans. Primeaux has a unique knack for coming up with guys in front of him on base and driving runs in. Even for a bigger guy Primeaux shows very strong barrel control with both the ability to pull the ball for homers or shoot a line drive the other way if the pitch dictates it. Primeaux also shows some projectability on the mound where the big 6-foot-6 and 230-pound left-hander has worked up to 90 mph in the past and shown feel for both a fading changeup and a tight short breaking slider. The Trojans will count on Primeaux to once again be a main force in the run-production from the middle of the lineup as well as count on him as his role on the mound continues to expand.

Blake Lamb, MIF/RHP, 2023, Drury commit
Lamb is another versatile athletic prospect for the Trojans that provides them some positional versatility as well as some depth on the mound. Lamb has strong tools that play up both in the infield as well as the outfield with above average speed and arm strength. Offensively he has a short and compact stroke and when he gets on the bases he has a chance to turn every walk or single into a double with his aggressive base running. On the mound he is a counted on strike thrower in the mid 80's and should log some important innings to help stretch the depth of the pitching staff.
2023 RHP @BlakeLamb17 (@JenksHSBaseball) has kept the hitters off balance using a solid mix with the FB working up to 84 mph and CB showing good depth. 4 K’s thru 4 with only one hit so far. pic.twitter.com/cm5zcEk7n5
