Oklahoma Rankings Update: Class of 2023

The PBR Oklahoma 2023 Class Rankings have been updated after a baseball packed Fall. The 2023s continue to add depth to an already talented class with some players who have seen major development and some newcomers to the list. Check out the risers, newcomers, and fully expanded rankings, below.

The Top 3
At the top of the OK rankings sit three shortstops. Each gifted infielder has a different skill set from the other two, making the argument for top player in the class an interesting one.  |
Jaxon Willits SS / Fort Cobb-Broxton, OK / 2023Through the spring and summer, Willis has continued to prove that he is one of the most polished left-handed hitters in the country with the ability to hit for average and power. Defensively, Willits shows soft and sure hands, clean footwork, and plenty of arm strength to stay on the left-side of the infield to go along with his high-end baseball IQ. If the Oklahoma commit continues to add strength and size to his 5-foot-11, 195-pound frame, Willits could move comfortably to third base.

Jax Ryan SS / 2B / Verdigris , OK / 2023Another Oklahoma commit, Ryan is a slick fielding infielders with as clean of actions of any infielder in the 2023 class with an accurate arm. Offensively, the right-handed hitter has continued to polish his swing and is showing more and more power to go with his ability to find barrel. At 6-foot-0, 160-pounds with lean strength already, Ryan is uber-projectable with a very high celling.

Avery Ortiz SS / RHP / Union, OK / 2023Rankings StateRank: 3 / POS: 3
After a strong spring and a coming out party at this year's Future Games, the Oklahoma State commit Ortiz has shot up our rankings to the third spot. One of the top athletes in the country, Ortiz put up some of the most impressive all around metrics at the Future Games as a position player and on the mound with fastballs for strikes up to 91 mph.

Graham Hylton C / 1B / Mustang , OK / 2023Rankings StateRank: 34 / POS: 6
The dynamic catcher continues to climb the rankings, this time jumping nearly 20 spots after an eye popping performance at the OK Preseason ID. The left-handed hitter pounded the ball in BP showing pop and barrel control. A strong defender as well, Hylton put throws on the bag for showcase pop times of 1.90-2.0. Hylton could continue to climb the list as he adds strength and flexibility to his game.

Josh Errico 2B / OF / Edmond Memorial , OK / 2023Rankings StateRank: 45 / POS: 2
Always a skilled player, Errico has added strength to his games that has him shooting up our rankings. The athletic infielder ran a 6.81 on the laser and posted a BP exit velo of 91 mph at the OK Fall Upperclass Games.

Cole Girard SS / RHP / Piedmont , OK / 2023Rankings StateRank: 46 / POS: 13
Girard jumps nearly 50 spots in this rankings thanks to big jumps in his metrics. Girard Showed a big arm from the infield and outfield at 87 and 90 respectively. In BP, Girard drove the ball to the pull side gap with a max exit 92 mph.

The Newcomers
In the offseason, we found a couple of difference makers who earned their way into our rankings. Below we highlight three prospects new to the top 30 spots of our rankings.

DeAngelo Irvin Jr SS / OF / Midwest City, OK / 2023Rankings StateRank: 15 / POS: 6
Irvin is a true utility that can play anywhere on the infield or outfield. The right-handed hitter shows a clean right-handed swing that will play at the next level with power to all fields. Irvin shows a 6.88 laser 60 at the OK Preseason I.D., but plays much faster. Also, a 3 year starter at QB, his athleticism is unquestionable.

Landon Bruce 2B / SS / Norman North, OK / 2023Rankings StateRank: 44 / POS: 1
Bruce jumps into our rankings in the top 50 thanks in part to being one of the fastest players in the state. Bruce posted a 6.73 60 on what turned out to be a relatively slow track. The right-handed hitter also flashed so pull side pop. Defensively, Bruce shows the fluidity and athleticism to stay on the dirt at the next level.

Gavin Watkins RHP / Lone Grove, OK / 2023Rankings StateRank: 49 / POS: 13
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound right hander was a major contributor to big success had by Lone Grove this year. At the OK Fall Upperclass Games Watkins compete featuring a mid 80s fastball with much more left in the tank.
