OK Winter Showcase Analysis: Third basemen

PBR OK hosted the third annual OK Winter Open at the state of the art World Baseball Outreach indoor facility. There were invite-only players showcased their skill in front of the PBR OK staff, 4 colleges and a pro scout. The talented event saw six sub 7.00 60s, five 90+ exit velos, five infield velos of 80+, three outfield velos of 85+, two sub 2.00 second pop times, and nine max fastballs at 80+ mph. Today, we take an in-depth look at the five third basemen from the event.

Brett Fuser 3B / OF / Afton, OK / 2020Displayed a physical, athletic 5-foot-11, 180-pound frame with control of his body. The right-handed hitter starts with a balanced, even stance and utilizes a quick toe-tap stride to initiate his swing. Generated a slightly uphill barrel path through the zone while hitting into a stiff front side. Showed a line-drive approach towards the middle of the field during batting practice with lift to the pull-side gap. Registered an 89 mph bat-exit velocity and recorded a 7.33 60-yard dash. The primary third baseman demonstrated soft hands and active feet to the baseball, creating solid range to both sides. A low center of gravity and quick first step allowed for advantageous routes, yielding accurate 75 mph throws out of a high ¾ arm-slot with a short takeaway. Flashed advanced body control during plays on the run, with ability to throw across his body. |

Eli Garrison 3B / OF / Broken Arrow, OK / 2023Demonstrated a long and lean 5-foot-8, 110-pound frame with room to add size and strength as he matures. The right-handed hitter begins with a balanced, even stance utilizing a short lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Showcased a line-drive approach during batting practice while hitting into a stiff and tall front side. Registered a 72 mph bat-exit velocity and recorded an 8.31 60-yard dash. The primary third baseman displayed average footwork with soft hands allowing for accurate 66 mph throws across the diamond out of a repeatable, high ¾ arm-slot. |

Jacob Kennedy 3B / RHP / Enid , OK / 2023Showcased a long and lean 6-foot, 155-pound frame with obvious projectability and room to add strength as he matures. The right-handed hitter begins with a balanced, even stance utilizing a short toe-tap stride to initiate a slightly uphill barrel path with sink through the hitting zone. Some lower half glide coupled with a soft front side yielded 79 mph bat-exit velocity off the tee. Recorded a 7.65 60-yard dash. The primary third baseman featured solid footwork with a low center of gravity creating momentum towards the target with consistency. Displayed adequate range to both sides with a soft glove hand allowing for accurate 77 mph throws across the diamond out of a fluid, high ¾ arm-slot. |

Jacob Morrow 3B / RHP / Owasso, OK / 2022Demonstrated a physical 6-foot-2, 190-pound frame with advanced feel for his body. The right-handed hitter begins with a wide, even stance utilizing a short lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Generated advanced barrel whip with sink through a slightly uphill path in the hitting zone. Showcased consistent feel for the hands during batting practice with lift to the deep left center field gap. Registered an 89 mph bat-exit velocity and recorded a 7.63 60-yard dash. The primary third baseman displayed loose, long actions with a low center of gravity allowing for range to both sides. A soft glove hand and smooth transfers allowed for accurate 72 mph arm-strength across the diamond out of a hitchy, high ¾ arm-slot. |

Ethan Rone 3B / SS / Choctaw, OK / 2022Displayed a large and durable 5-foot-11, 195-pound frame with a strong lower half and feel for his body. The right-handed hitter begins with a quiet, even setup utilizing a lift-and-replace stride to initiate advanced barrel whip through a slightly uphill path into the hitting zone. Advanced sink into a physical lower half coupled with feel for his hands allowed for an easy, violent stroke during batting practice. Demonstrated comfortability peppering the pull-side gap with some lift while registering a 92 mph bat-exit velocity. Recorded a 7.41 60-yard dash. The primary third baseman showcased a low center of gravity with long, fluid movements allowing for range to both sides. A soft glove hand that worked through the ball created momentum yielding accurate 81 mph arm-strength across the diamond with carry out of a repeatable, high ¾ arm-slot. |
