OK Winter Showcase Analysis: LHPs

PBR OK hosted the third annual OK Winter Open at the state of the art World Baseball Outreach indoor facility. There were invite-only players showcased their skill in front of the PBR OK staff, 4 colleges and a pro scout. The talented event saw six sub 7.00 60s, five 90+ exit velos, five infield velos of 80+, three outfield velos of 85+, two sub 2.00 second pop times, and nine max fastballs at 80+ mph. Today, we take an in-depth look at the fourteen outfielders from the event.
Hank Horton LHP / 1B / Broken Arrow, OK / 2023A very projectable and long 6-foot-3, 168-pound frame with lots or room to add strength. The left-hander works from a controlled and deliberate delivery with a moderate leg kick before gliding down the mound and finishing towards the dish. Arm action is deliberate with moderate length in the back before coming through an over the top slot with some arm speed. Fastball shows excellent downhill tilt at 73-74 mph, mostly strikes. Curveball has rolling action and 12/6 shape at 62-63 mph, some strikes. Changeup shows some fade at 64-65 mph, some strikes. |
Nathan Rogalski LHP / 1B / Deer Creek, OK / 2023A physically advanced 6-foot, 180-pound frame with room to add strength. On the mound, the left-hander works only from the windup with a high and athletic up down and out leg kick before striding down the mound with quality leg drive. Arm action is very fast in the back with moderate length before coming through an over the top slot with arm speed. Fastball shows some downhill tilt with occasional arm-side run at 79-81 mph, mostly strikes. Curveball shows near 12/6 shape, hanging at times, some strikes at 65-66 mph. Changeup is advanced at 68-71 with diving action and mostly strikes, thrown with full arm speed. |
Benjamin Simpson LHP / 1B / Metro Christian, OK / 2021A 6-foot-1, 175-pound proportional frame. On the mound, the left-hander works only from the the stretch with a high up, down, and out leg kick before striding down the mound and finishing towards the dish. Arm action stabs in the back with a wrist hook before coming through an over the top slot with some quickness. Fastball shows some downhill tilt at 73-75 mph, some strikes. Changeup has some fade and thrown with full arm speed at 68-69 mph. Curveball shows big 12/6 shape with some late depth at 67-68 mph, mostly strikes. |
Taylor Tomlin OF / LHP / Deer Creek, OK / 2023A 5-foot-8, 135-pound developing frame. On the mound, the left-hander works only from the stretch with a high up, down and out leg kick before striding short down the mound and finishing towards the dish. Arm action is long and fast in the back before pulling through a high-¾ slot. Fastball sits 71-73 mph with occasional arm-side run, some strikes. Curveball shows 1/7 shape with occasional late depth at 61-63 mph, some strikes. Changeup shows cutting action at 65-66 mph. |
