Prep Baseball Report Oklahoma hosted the second annual OK Preseason All-State Showcase this past Sunday at the World Baseball Outreach indoor facility in Tulsa, OK. This invite only event featured 90 of the top players from every class in Oklahoma. Each player participated in a pro style showcase to show their skills and record measurables in front of multiple colleges along with the PBR staff.

This was easily the most talent packed event in PBR OK history with 16 players posting 90+ exit velo, 16 players that were 85+ on the mound, 10 sub 7.00 60s, 9 catchers under 2.0, a 90 across the INF, and a 100 from the OF.

In the coming weeks, PBR OK will write an in-depth scouting report on each player at the event grouped by position and age. Today, we look at the left-handed pitchers from the 2020 and 2021 class.  Though many of them are talented two-way players, they will be cover here only as pitchers with positional analysis to come later.

Left-handed Pithers, 2020-2021

Grayson Adams LHP / OF / Bethany, OK / 2021

A long and lean 6-foot-1, 154-pound frame with lots of room to add size and strength. On the mound, works from a deliberate delivery with a moderate leg kick, lands in line and finishes towards the plate. Arm action has some length in the back and comes through a ¾ slot with looseness. Fastball sits 75-76 mph with slight arm-side run and is controlled in the zone. Changeup shows consistent fade when thrown to the arm side, consistently around the zone. Curveball is developing, 62-63 mph, rolling action and 1/7 shape, thrown around the zone. Overall, Adams long frame and loose arm and bloodlines make him a prospect to watch closely as he develops.

Jordan Brewer LHP / 1B / Choctaw , OK / 2020

A 6-foot-1, 187-pound proportional frame. Works from an average tempo delivery with good rhythm that he repeats well. Uses a high leg kick with a slight coil, lands closed and finishes slightly towards the third base side. Arm action is long in the back with a slight stab and a quick change of direction, coming through a high-¾ slot with below average effort. Fatball shows consistent arm-side run with advanced command especially to the arm side and down, 81-84 mph. Curveball shows short break with some tight spin, inconsistent release point, 74-76 mph. Changeup fades to the arm side, fastball arm-speed, and some feel for the zone, 77-78 mph. Overall, Brewer’s velo and command has continued to rise over the past year and one more jump could put him in with some of the best left-handers in the state.

Dondi King Jr. LHP / OF / Edmond Santa Fe, OK / 2021

A physically advanced 6-foot-1, 180-pound frame with some quick twitch and strength. On the mound, works from an uptempo delivery with some rhythm. Uses a high leg kick before slowing down and gliding to the place, landing slightly up. Arm action is short in the back with a wrist curl before coming through and over the top slot with a quick arm and some stiffness. Fastball has some downhill tilt at 76-77 mph, above average feel for the zone. Knuckle-curve is sharp and late with 12/6 shape, above average command, 66-68 mph. Changeup flashes fade 67-68 mph. Overall, King’s athleticism, frame, and feel for the zone make him a prospect to watch.

Seth Stacey LHP / 1B / Tahlequah, OK / 2020

A physically advanced 6-foot-1, 195-pound frame with strength and broad shoulders. On the mound, works from a controlled and smooth delivery, sinking into his back side and getting good leg drive to the plate. Arm action is moderate and clean in the back, hides the ball well behind his head before coming through a 3/4 slot with quickness. Fastball was a tick slower than we had seen before at 81-83 mph showing occasional late run to the arm side. Curveball shows consistent late depth  with 1/7 shape, thrown at the bottom of the zone and as a chase pitch, 75-77 mph. Changeup has flashes late fade, thrown for strikes, 75-76 mph. Overall, Stacey was impressive with the amount of strikes he threw, and when he puts it together with the bigger velos he possesses, he will garner a lot of high level attention.

Will Taylor LHP / 1B / Kingfisher, OK / 2021

A long, lean, and projectable 6-foot-1, 165-pound frame with long legs and lots of room to add size and strength. On the mound, works from a deliberate delivery before striding to the dish with some quickness and leg drive. Arm action is long and full in the back with a wrist hook before coming through a high-¾ slot, loose and whippy. Fastball shows occasional arm side run with well above average command, 75-78 mph. Curveball has a rolling shape, up out of the hand at times, around the zone, 64-67 mph. Changeup cuts as times, especially to the glove side 61-65 mph. Overall, Taylor's projectable frame paired with his long and loose arm make him a prospect for colleges to keep close tabs on.
