OK Junior Future Games Trials: Outfielder Analysis

The second annual OK Junior Future Games Trials was held at the state of the art 20,000 square ft, Wold Baseball Outreach indoor facility. This one day event featured many of the top prospects in the 2023 and 2024 classes from around the state showcasing their skills in front of PBR staff.
This talented event saw impressive numbers in every category, including 6 sub 7.1 60s, ten 81+ exit velos, five arms that were 79+ across the infield, six arms that were 80+ from the outfield, two sub two second pop times, and five pitchers that were 80+.

Today, we take an in-depth look at the third basemen that upgraded to full profiles from the event.
Ashton Bennight LHP / OF / Yukon, OK / 2023A 6-foot-2, 160-pound frame. Offensively, physical frame, hits from tall left-handed stance. Narrow base, uses short lift and stride to the baseball, small dive towards that plate to swing. Some stiffness in the swing, generates some bat speed with long levers, much more length and separation to be generated in future. Barrell works steep, uphill through hitting zone. Chance to be power LH bat, 80 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.33 60. Defensively, plays tall and upright, short stride to throw with current arm strength and carry. Works up and over front side to throw. Throws with long arm stroke coming from high ¾ arm slot, small head snap with slight arm side run at 84 mph from OF. |
Tyler Davis RHP / OF / Collinsville , OK / 2024A 5-foot-3, 153-pound frame. Offensively, the right-hander hits from a squatted stance, starts open and strides open to swing. Hands work off the back shoulder and slightly down to start swing, tendency to work away from front shoulder and hip, long path through the hitting zone. Lift in the swing, drove baseball middle and pull side. Defensively, OF shows average actions with hands and feet playing thru the baseball. Throws with long arm swing coming through at ¾ arm slot at 76 mph. |
Scotty Flanagan RHP / OF / Morrison, OK / 2023A 5-foot-10, 165-pound frame. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from an athletic, slightly open setup, uses a small stride to separate and start swing. Efficient move to the baseball, hands and lower half stay connected throughout, strong lower half producing loud contact. Consistent barrels, middle of the field approach,84 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.66 60. Defensively, OF shows fluid actions to field and throw, strong lower half with good arm speed. Throws with a clean arm stroke, ball jumps out of the hand at an OT arm slot at 82 mph, more arm strength and velo on the way. |
Owen Hunter OF / RHP / Edmond North, OK / 2023A 5-foot-10, 155-pound frame. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from slightly open, crouched stance, maintains wide base with balance throughout. Uses small lift to the toe to load, weight stays on back side throughout, front side lift early. Uphill bat path, average contact to pull side bat speed, 83 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.06 60. Defensively, OF shows twitch and bounce, athletic movements to throw. Plays through the baseball. Throws with long arm stroke, reach in the back, coming through at an OT slot at 80 mph. |
Kasen LeGrand OF / 3B / Canute, OK / 2023A 5-foot-10, 217-pound frame. Offensively, the right-handed hitter uses physical frame and strength to generate plus bat speed. Slightly open setup, leg lift to load and start, hands stay in neutral position off the back shoulder with barrel flat. Max effort, middle to pull with occasional lift, 93 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.45 60. Defensively, corner OF shows average glove and feet, short stride to throw, quick to spin. Throws sailed arm side from a high ¾ arm slot at 81 mph. |
Austin Lemon OF / SS / Heritage Hall, OK / 2023A 5-foot-9, 130-pound frame. Offensively, the switch-hitting OF look more natural and athletic from the left side, drives baseball with little more pop. RH setup is wide, loads to toe, uses short direct path to the baseball, line drive swing. LH swing has more rhythm with foot lift and hand load to start, firm front side to hit against, turns barrel slightly uphill to get on plane. Drives baseball middle of field, 77 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.01 60. Defensively, smaller framed OF has active feet with average glove actions. Throws with a short, arm stroke coming through a high ¾ slot with small drift to left to throw, some accuracy at 75 mph. |
Dietrich Moore OF / 1B / Broken Arrow, OK / 2023A 5-foot-11, 195-pound frame. Offensively, the physical right handed hitter uses simple setup, small lift to stride, generates easy bat speed. Heavy gather to load on the back side, hands push below the shoulder, short direct path to the baseball with good extension pull side for lift. Strong, broad shoulder frame, 90 mph exit velo. Runs a 6.88 60. Defensively, broad OF frame, accelerates well through the baseball, tall and on toes to throw, gets out front, inconsistent accuracy at times. Throws with short arm stroke, quick release at 78 mph. |
Ty Parker RHP / 3B / Chisholm , OK / 2024A 5-foot-10, 140-pound frame. Offensively, the right-hitting OF uses slightly open setup, wide base, with a toe drag and lift to load. Barrel works flat prior to entering the zone, hands tendency to push away from the body to attack baseball. Long at times. Wiry, loose frame, added strength will help lower half finish. Barrelled baseballs with a middle of the field and flat approach, 80 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.71 60. Defensively, 3B played low, glove works well to field the baseball, young actions with active feet. Throws multiple arm slots, majority with long arm stroke, coming through a OT slot at 79 mph. |
Braden Perkins RHP / OF / Heritage Hall, OK / 2023A 6-foot-0, 180-pound frame. Offensively, the right-handed OF hits from a balanced setup, using a small toe raise to load hands. Hands start center of body, creates long load to the back shoulder. Tendency to get narrow and on heels through swing, hands and barrel get in strong position before launch, hands and back elbow stay connected through the baseball. More in the lower half with some added length. In BP shows, a middle of the field approach with lift, some barrels, 76 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.69 60. Defensively, corner OF shows average actions with glove and footwork. Stands tall to throw with long arm action and delivery, small hitch, ball came out at 73 mph. |
Luke Schimmels OF / RHP / Deer Creek , OK / 2023A 6-foot-0, 180-pound frame. Offensively, the right-handed OF has presence in the box, shows good rhythm. Uses small front foot drag and lift to load, small dive at times, good direction and path to the baseball. Strong throughout, keeping lower half under, extension through the baseball. More bat speed to come. Middle of the field with lift and pop, mostly barrels, 82 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.52 60. Defensively, OF is aggressive to field and throw, plays downhill. Short, quick arm stroke and release. Ball jumps from the hand, runs arm side at 85 mph. |
Taylor Tomlin OF / LHP / Deer Creek, OK / 2023A 5-foot-8, 135-pound frame. Offensively, the right-handed OF hits with a crouched setup, uses big leg lift, loads heavy on the back side. Front foot lands heavy and closed, some stiffness in lower half rotation, small upper body collapse at contact. Long path, negative attack angle with short extension through the baseball. Line drive, contact hitter, 69 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.14 60. Defensively, OF shows twitchy, loose motions with easy glove action and active feet. Throws with loose arm action, ¾ slot, small glove side pull, some carry at 78 mph. |
Cale Wetwiska OF / RHP / Bethany, OK / 2023A 5-foot-10, 135-pound frame. Offensively, the right-hander hits from a balanced, slightly open stance. Short, compact swing, uses a small simple foot lift to load and close front side. Weight loads heavy on back side, travelling outside back foot, weak front side to hit against. Small arm bar, hands and bat work level. Line drive, contact hitter, mostly pull gap, almost all barrels, 76 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.52 60. Defensively, OF plays downhill and through the baseball, good momentum to throw. Throws with a clean arm stroke coming through a OT slot with accuracy at 79 mph. |
