Prep Baseball Report Oklahoma hosted its first ever JUCO Sophomore Scout Day on Saturday, November 10th, at NOC Tonkawa home of the Mavericks. The event showcased 14 of NOC Tonkawa Sophomores. Each position player went through a pro-style workout and pitchers threw pens.

Ashton Francis OF / Edmond Memorial, OK / 2017A muscular 5-foot-10, 175-pound frame with some strength. Offensively, the left-handed hitter bats from an even and balanced set-up with rhythm throughout. Uses smooth load with a moderate and soft stride before launching his hand on a slightly uphill path with a short finish. In BP, shows a gap-to-gap approach with some lift, mostly barrels, 92 mph exit velo. Runs a 6.98 60. Defensively, charges the ball well in the outfield showing clean and confident actions. Throws with a moderate crow hop using long and loose arm stroke coming through an over the top slot at 84 mph with some accuracy. |
Cale Francis SS / 3B / Westmoore, OK / 2017A physically advanced 6-foot-2, 200-pound muscular frame with strength throughout. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from a slightly open, upright, quiet and relaxed set-up with low set hands. Uses a big hand load and moderate stride with a front side coil and late heel plant before launching his hands on a flat path to contact and a high finish with extension. In BP, shows an opposite field approach with consistent lift staying inside the baseball on every swing, some barrels early and almost all barrels late in his round with pop, 98 mph exit velo. Runs a 6.88 second 60. Defensively, shows deliberate and clean hands and feet that project best at third base. Throws with a quick arm stroke through an over the top slot with accuracy at 86 mph across the diamond. |
Austin Glock 1B / Edmond Santa Fe, OK / 2016A broad shouldered 6-foot, 200-pound frame with some strength. Offensively, the left-handed hitter bats from a slightly open, quiet, and relaxed set-up. Uses a short reverse toe-tap and moderate stride before launching his hands on a flat path through extension. In BP, shows gap-to-gap approach with some lift and flashed pull pop, stays inside the ball well, 94 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.20 60. Defensively, moves very well around the bag with clean footwork and shows above average hands. Throws with multiple arm strokes and slots depending on the play with excellent accuracy topping out at 79 mph to second base. |
Eric Gutierrez SS / 2B / Westmoore, OK / 2017A proportional 5-foot-10, 180-pound. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from an even, balanced, and athletic set-up with rhythm throughout. Uses a moderate and quick stride with a hand load before launching them on a flat path through extension. In BP, shows a middle of the field and line drive approach, almost all barrels, 90 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.14 60. Defensively, plays low showing smooth and quick footwork and well above average hands, makes double play turns and the slow roller play with athleticism. Throws from different arm angles with ease and some accuracy at 85 mph across the diamond. |
Cacy Harper C / Berryhill, OK / 2017A physically impressive 6-foot-4, 225-pound muscular frame with exceptional strength throughout. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from an open, athletic, and slightly back leg heavy set-up with rhythm in his hands. Uses a controlled reverse toe-tap, moderate strike, and slight arm-bar hand load before launching the barrel on a slightly uphill path with strength and extension. In BP, shows a pull gap approach with consistent lift and very easy pop, leaving the yard on four of his twelve swings including a few that were not completely barreled up, mostly barrels, 105 exit velo. Runs a 7.27 60. Defensively, shows a big target with above average hands and advanced blocking behind the dish. On throws down, shows elite accuracy and arm strength with consistently clean footwork and exchanges for showcase pop times of 1.85-1.94. |
Kade Marlatt OF / 2B / Woodward, OK / 2017A very lean and athletic 5-foot-10, 185-pound frame strength throughout. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from an even, balanced and athletic set-up with rhythm throughout. Uses a big hand-pump load and a high hanging leg kick before launching his hands on a slightly uphill path with consistent bat speed and good extension. In BP, shows an all fields approach with occasional lift, some barrels early, but ended his round with five consecutive line-drives deep in the gaps. Runs a 6.70 60. Defensively, shows clean, confident, and athletic actions in the outfield, charging the ball on the ground well. Throws coming through the ball with active feet, arm action has moderate length in the back before coming through an over the top slot, topping out at 86 mph and showing some accuracy. |
Connor Pasby OF / Chisholm, OK / 2017A 5-foot-9, 180-pound proportional frame. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from a slightly wide, open, upright, and relaxed set-up with rhythm in his hands. Uses a moderate leg kick before launching his hands on a flat path through extension, staying well inside the baseball. In BP, shows an opposite field gap and line drive approach while also showing the ability to get the head out and pull the ball when pitched in, almost all barrels, 87 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.02 60. Defensively, shows clean, confident and athletic actions in the outfield with good hands. Uses a quick shuffle step instead of a crow hop and short arm stroke coming through an over the top slot with advanced arm strength and accuracy with every throw at 88 mph and on the bag. |
Joey Pena C / 3B / Mustang, OK / 2017A durable 6-foot-215-pound frame with some strength throughout. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from a slightly wide, open, upright and balanced set-up with rhythm in his hands. Uses a short reverse toe-tap and hand load before launching his hands on a flat and efficient path to contact with a high finish. In BP, shows an all fields approach with some power in all directions and occasional lift, mostly barrels, 95 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.20 60. Defensively, shows excellent flexibility in the crouch and above average blocking and receiving. Throws down with clean and consistent footwork and exchanges, uses a short arm stroke through an over the top slot with quickness to produce showcase pop times of 1.94-2.05 with some accuracy at 72 mph. Also, athletic enough to be more than serviceable at 3B. |

Dominick Trevino OF / Edmond Santa Fe, OK / 2017A lean and athletic 5-foot-9, 175-pound frame with wiry strength throughout. Offensively, the right-handed hitter bats from a slightly front foot heavy, upright, and relaxed set-up. Uses a moderate leg lift and hand load before launching his hands on a slightly uphill path through extension with bat speed. In BP, shows a middle to opposite field approach with occasional lift with the ability to pull when pitched in, stays inside the baseball well, mostly barrels, 94 mph exit velo. Runs a 6.82 60. Defensively, shows clean, confident, and athletic actions, playing through the ball well consistently. Uses a step-behind shuffle instead of a crow hop with a full and quick arm circle coming through a high-¾ slot with excellent carry and well advanced arm strength and some accuracy at 92 mph.
