HOUSTON, T.X. — Over the past week, we have gotten to see a plethora of talent in the state from the 2022 and 2023 classes.

Garrett Stratton, RHP, Strake Jesuit, 2022 (Kyle Chapman) 
6-foot-2 165-pound RHP, was dominant on the day we saw him as he threw a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts. Stratton was pounding the zone all day long with his fastball sitting 84-87 mph while mixing in a 73-74 mph curveball. He’s got a clean, quick delivery with good arm speed and repeats his delivery well. 

Brenner Cox, OF/RHP, Prosper Rock Hill, 2022 (Dulins Dodgers) 
Cox is a top two-way player committed to Texas and on this weekend we saw him at the plate. He features a simple approach with a quick swing that packs some big power potential to the pull-side. As he continues to develop, look for the power to grow at the plate. 

Boots Landry, 1B, Friendswood, 2023 (Banditos) 
Landry is one of the top power hitters in the 2023 class in Texas and he showed that this weekend. Early in the week he launched one out to RF down the line on an offspeed pitch and then later in the weekend showed the ability to turn on a fastball and send it into the RCF gap. Present strength with room to continue growing for this Oklahoma State commit. 

Chase Mora, RHP/SS, Tomball, 2022 (Hunter Pence) 
The athletic RHP/SS was dialed in for his start this weekend. He had good tempo and was keeping hitters off balance with three pitches. His fastball was 84-86 mph keeping the ball low in the zone, while mixing in a changeup at 77-79 mph that flashed arm side run and threw it backdoor to LHH a couple times. He also featured a curveball that was 71-75 mph flashing sharp action. 

Brayden Sharp, LHP, The Woodlands, 2023 (Banditos) 
Sharp was dealing in the short outing we saw from him to begin the week. His fastball was 79-81 T82 mph and commanded it well arm-side and mixed in his slider a handful of times at 73-75 mph flashing late, sharp movement. 

Cade McGarrh, RHP/SS, Frisco Liberty, 2022 (Dulins Dodgers) 
Athletic RHP at 6-foot-2, 165 pounds, has a quick whip arm on the mound. His fastball was 82-83 T85 mph with a 71-72 curveball with big 11/5 action and a changeup flashing run and sink at 76-77 mph. Also had a handful of hits this weekend and plays clean defense at shortstop with good arm strength. 

Hudson Hamilton, 3B, Grand Oaks, 2023 (Lonestar Baseball Club) 
Hamilton is a dual-sport athlete, QB1 in the fall. He showed a strong swing with good power close to leaving the yard a couple of times. The swing works well and has little swing and miss. Good athlete in the field and showed a strong arm from 3B.  

 

Cole Johnson, 1B, Lake Travis, 2023 (Lonestar Baseball Club) 
Johnson is a 6-foot-4, 195-pound long, lanky 1B that showed some raw power this weekend hitting balls deep into the gaps. There is a little bit of swing and miss but when he connects with the ball, it’s loud contact.  

 

Collin Valentine, LHP, Highland Park, 2022 (Academy Select) 
Valentine lived in the zone during his short outing throwing 23 of 29 pitches for strikes. His fastball was 78-79 T81 mph and was able to command the bottom of the zone. Also featured two breaking balls, a slider at 71-72 mph with good sweeping action and a curveball that spins right at 64-65 mph.  

 

Kolby Branch, SS/2B, Lovejoy, 2022 (Dulins Dodgers) 
Branch is a scrappy middle infielder that has good bat-to-ball skills. Instinctive player that was taking the extra base on a ball in the dirt that wasn't far away from the catcher.  

Blake Peterson, OF/IF, Austin Westlake, 2023 (Lonestar Baseball Club) 
Peterson is a 6-foot, 180-pound athlete who showed he can play both infield and outfield this weekend. At the plate, he’s got a bit handsy swing but showed a solid approach to hit the ball where it’s pitched and hit it with authority. 

Ben Merriman, OF, Austin Bowie, 2023 (Lonestar Baseball Club) 
Athletic build with present strength and room to grow. Showed good power to hit balls into the gap and over outfielders’ heads and has good, long speed on the base paths.  

 

Louis Alonzo, C, Cedar Park, 2023 (Lonestar Baseball Club) 
Alonzo, 5-foot-11 140-pound right-handed hitting catcher, showed good ability all weekend to hit the ball to all fields. Behind the plate, he’s a good receiver and had a 2.12 pop time in-game. As his frame continues to fill out, look for added strength at the plate.  

 

Caden Strickland, RHP, Salado, 2023 (Lonestar Baseball Club) 
5-foot-10, 175-pound right-handed pitcher. Strickland kept the ball down and got swings and misses. He struck out 9 in 4.2 innings. His fastball was 81-82 T83 mph with good command and a big curveball at 67-68 mph that he was able to throw to either side of the plate.  

 

Pierce George, RHP, Lake Travis, 2022 (GPS Legends) 
George is a big, athletic right-handed pitcher that flashed ability to throw strikes with his fastball. He was 84-88 mph in his one inning of work with a slider that was 71-74 mph, flashing sharp action. He’s an arm to watch develop over the next year plus. 

OJ Gonzalez, RHP, Lake Travis, 2023 (Lonestar Baseball Club) 
Gonzalez showed flashes of promise in his start with a 82-84 mph fastball, topping out at 85 mph. His curveball flashed sharp, 11/5 action at 70-71 mph. He’s an athletic kid that plays outfield as well and looks to have plenty of room for development. 

Kyler Proctor, RHP, Silo (OK), 2023 (Dallas Patriots) 
The Oklahoma commit was pounding the strike zone all day long. He lived at the bottom of the zone with his fastball sitting 84-86 mph while ripping off a curveball that spun right at 70-71 mph.
