Andy Urban
Oklahoma Scouting Director

As the summer turns to fall, many coaches are becoming more interested in Oklahoma’s 2019 class. Today, PBR Oklahoma takes an in-depth look at four rising sophomores that have stood out from the rest here in the early fall.

Kaden Marshall, OF, Deer Creek HS
A 6-foot-3, 195-pound physically advanced frame, broad shoulders, strong hands, and defined lower-half. Offensively, right-handed hitter, bat speed, slightly uphill pat path, length in the swing, pull approach, produces backspin. Balanced set-up, smooth load, quiet hands, small stride, advanced leg drive. 4.34 in game home to first time. Defensively, attacks the ball, throws from high-3/4 slot, short arm action, some carry.

Kale Davis, RHP/3B/C, Mustang HS
A 6-foot-2, 190-pound athletic build, long limbs, proportional strength.  On the mound, fluid delivery, good rhythm, over the top slot, upright finish. Fastball keeps its plane, 83-85, curveball has 12/6 shape, 70-73, slider has cutting action, 75-76. Defensively, at third base, athletic, clean actions, arm slot and strength translate well.  Behind the dish, flexible hips, flashes signs of improved receiving, multiple 2.2 in game pops. Offensively, right-handed hitter, middle-pull approach, balanced, athletic stance, good rhythm, short stride.  Short to the ball, extension through contact, bat speed.

Erick Rey, SS/2B, Westmoore HS
A 5-Foot-9, 160-pound middle infielder, athletic build.  Advanced runner, 4.13 in game home to first time, 4.53 on the turn to second on a double. Offensively, right-handed hitter, middle of the field approach, shows various ways to get timing with a leg kick and short controlled stride, fast hands, flat bat path through contact. Defensively, fluid easy actions, moves laterally well, soft hands, accurate arm.

C.J. Briley, LHP, Write City HS
A 6-foot-3, 150-pound slender, lanky build with plenty of room to fill in. Works from a 3/4 slot, loose, easy arm action. Fastball had slight arm-side arm side run, flashed moderate run, 76-79 touched 81. Breaking ball had smooth consistent break, 2/8 shape, 66-70. Threw a seven inning , complete game shutout.  Velocity and command will surely progress as he grows into his frame.
