The Top Corner Infielders from the Top Prospect Showcase

Ohio’s first annual Top Prospect event has concluded. Today, we cover the corner infielders.
Top 2012 Corner Infield Prospects for the Event
Zak DeCamp, 1B/3B, Columbus DeSales- The 6-foot-2, 210-pound corner infielder has a solid, athletic build. He recorded one of the top 60-yard dash times at the event with a 6.77. From third base, he registered 83 mph across the infield. While he has the athletic ability to play third base, he may project best as a first baseman at the next level. At the plate, DeCamp, who hits from the right side, shows a compact swing based on a balanced setup, short stride, and smooth load. He has explosive lower half movement and fast bat speed that generates line drive power to all fields.
Cale Giddings, 1B, Pickerington North- The 6-foot-1, 210-pound first baseman has a solid build with a strong lower half. He recorded a 7.58 time with the 60-yard dash. From first base, he registered 68 mph across the infield. While his velocity is below average, he showed soft hands and fluid footwork at first base. At the plate, Giddings, a right-handed hitter, put on a display as he hit several balls out of the park. Utilizing an explosive lower-half and quick bat speed, Giddings continually shows max effort with big time pull power.
Zach Ratcliff, IF/OF, Columbus Academy- The 6-foot-5, 210-pound infielder is a big, athletic prospect. He likely projects as a first baseman at the next level, but has the ability to play left field as well. He recorded a 7.13 time with the 60-yard dash. From first base, he registered 75 mph across the infield. At the plate, Ratcliff, who hits from the right side, showed one of the most explosive swings at the event. The ball jumps off his bat with his explosive lower half and exceptionally quick bat speed. He hit hard line drives with significant carry to all fields.
Brennan Singleton, 3B, Strongsville- The 6-foot, 190-pound third baseman was not the biggest corner infielder at the event, but he showed an athletic build that will translate well with the shift to BBCOR bats. He recorded a 6.92 time with the 60-yard dash. From third base, he registered 73 mph across the infield. At the plate, Singleton, who hits from the left side, utilizes a smooth swing with an uphill bat path to generate gap-to-gap power.
The Best of the Rest
- Lincoln Reed, Cincinnati La Salle- The 6-foot-3, 200-pound corner infielder is a switching hitting prospect. He registered a 7.1 60-yard dash and 75 mph across the infield.
- Jake Schreckenhofer, Indian Hill- The 6-foot-2, 200-pound first baseman, who also plays outfield, is an intriguing prospect. He showed 6.81 speed, but below average velocity across the infield with 62 mph.
Top 2013 Corner Infield Prospects for the Event
Tommy Coon, 1B/3B, Dublin Jerome- The 6-foot-1, 215-pound prospect has a big, soft build. He recorded a 7.53 time in the 60-yard dash. In the field, he likely projects as a first baseman at the next level. He shows signs of soft hands, but need to improve his the speed of his exchange and footwork. At the plate, Coon, who hits from the right side, proved to be the top power hitter at the event for the Class of 2013. His compact swing, which features a short stride and short bath to the ball, generates powerful line drives.
Brady Harris, 1B/3B, Olentangy Orange- The 6-foot-4, 210-pound prospect has a tall, athletic build. He recorded a 7.52 time in the 60-yard dash. In the field, he shows the ability to play both third base and first base. He uses fluid footwork and above average hands while fielding the ball. He uses an over the top arm slot to generate 78 mph velocity across the infield. At the plate, he shows explosive bat speed with an uphill bat path. He displayed line drive power to all fields.
Blake Tiberi, 3B, Holy Cross (KY)- The 5-foot-10, 180-pound prospect has a solid, athletic build. In the field, he showed very well at third base and likely has the versatility to play second base at the next level. He recorded a 7.05 time in the 60-yard dash. In the field, he consistently played through the baseball and displayed soft hands. He uses quick and fluid footwork and a clean exchange with 79 mph velocity across the infield. At the plate, Tiberi displayed a smooth swing from the left side. He is a line drive hitter who uses quick bat speed and a short path to the ball.
Paul Trick, 3B, Olentangy Orange- The 6-foot-3, 175-pound is a tall and lanky prospect that should continue to fill out and become stronger as he matures. He showed above average athletic ability for his size and could project at a number of different positions, including the outfield. He recorded a 7.06 time in the 60-yard dash. In the field, he showed some of the softest hands at the event. Despite his size, he has clean and fluid footwork and consistently plays through the ball. He has short arm action from a high ¾ slot that registers 74 mph across the infield. At the plate, Trick, who hits from the right side, showed quick bat speed and a level bat path that generates gap-to-gap power. As he becomes stronger and incorporates more of his lower half, Trick will generate additional power at the plate.
