Q and A with 2012 Eastern Michigan Commit Michael Marsinek
August 1, 2011
PBR: What schools were you considering? Marsinek: University of Cincinnati, Kent State, Wright State and Ohio State
PBR: Why did you choose Eastern Michigan University? Marsinek: I chose Eastern Michigan because I went on a visit and loved the campus, got along with the coaches very well, and felt it would be the best fit for me for the next four years of my life baseball-wise and school-wise.
PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus? Marsinek: I will be expected to come out of the bullpen in my first year if I live up to what they believe I can do. We've also already had discussions about areas that we feel that I can improve, so I look forward to working with the coaching staff.
PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help Eastern Michigan? Marsinek: My biggest strength as a player is keeping my composure under pressure, and not letting anything get to me. I think it will help if they need me in a key situation and I will be used to the pressure and be okay with it.
PBR: How has travel baseball helped your development as a player? Marsinek: Travel baseball has helped a ton in developing me as a player. It has made me a lot more used to the toughest competition, and traveling around everywhere to play.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player? Marsinek: Coach Chris Kaczmar (head coach at Walsh Jesuit) has had a huge impact on me as a baseball player. He has believed in me ever since I was a freshman and has put me on the mound in many difficult situations. This gave me the confidence that I feel I will need, to play at the Division I level. Coach Neall French has also had a big impact on me. I learned from him what it takes in the off-season to improve and get ready for the following season. Both of these coaches have helped me through a lot during the recruiting process as well, and it is very much appreciated.
PBR: Why did you decide to attend Walsh Jesuit? Marsinek: I decided to attend Walsh Jesuit because it is a great school overall. Although it is a great baseball school, it also is a school with good morals and values, and will get you ready for college as good as any other high school will.
PBR: What has it been like to be a part of such a successful high school program? Marsinek: It has been amazing being able to see the best of the best play in high school and learning from them. I am using what I learned from all of these people to continue to improve everyday.
PBR: Did any of your former teammates (that have moved on to the next level) give you any advice about the recruiting process? Marsinek: Many players that have moved on have given me advice about the next level like Greg Greve, Johnny Fasola and Tyler Skulina. They have been great in helping me figure out what steps I need to take to move in the right direction and it has helped a ton.
PBR: What were your stats for this spring season at WJ? Marsinek: My record was 8-0, 1.12 ERA, 58 K's in 43 innings. First Team All Ohio, CRVC Pitcher of the Year.
PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that have you faced in Ohio? Marsinek: Forrest Perron, he refuses to strike out and he can hit for power, or turn a ground out into an infield single.
