Householder Likes The Brotherhood At Marshall

WINTERSVILLE - The similarity to home was just what Ty Householder was after in a college.

“I come from a small town and Huntington’s a small town,” the Indian Creek High School incoming senior said in describing what made Marshall the right choice after making a commitment to the Sun Belt Conference university. “The culture and brotherhood there, I could tell it was what I was looking for. The coaches are great, they have new facilities and they stress player development.”

The 19th-ranked 2025 outfielder in Ohio, who went to a camp at Marshall at the end of his sophomore year and took a visit to the school a month ago where he was offered, took a strong interest in the prospects of playing at the next level a few years back.

“Going into my seventh grade year I started to fall in love with it,” Householder reflected. “I quit basketball and football to focus on baseball.”

The college baseball dream eventually materialized.

“I played legion ball up to my sophomore year when I started to play travel ball and that’s when it became a reality for me,” Householder said.

Interest came from Ohio University and Akron along with “some schools in Maryland” and Eastern Michigan, but the first offer came from Marshall.

“It was a slow process,” the 126th-rated senior in the state said about his recruitment. “I didn’t get in front of coaches until my sophomore year. I flew under the radar but started going to camps.

“It really wasn’t stressful for me. I just let it play out and it worked out in the end.”

Marshall saw a lot of promise in the 6-0 185-pounder, who was recruited as a center fielder.

“They like my speed, my ability tracking balls in the outfield and they like my swing,” Householder noted.

Making strides in his game helped the case, with Householder pointing to additional assistance coming from Bo Jackson Elite coach Brandon Riley, coach Mark Stacy and his family.

“Freshman year I wasn’t very strong but I stressed the weight room and hit the cage a lot,” the 18-year-old related. “I just worked hard at my game.”

It led to a college commitment to Marshall, with aviation and business being considered as a major by Householder, who carries a 3.6 GPA at Indian Creek.

“It felt great to find a home and get the pressure off my shoulders,” Householder said. “I’m gonna enjoy every day. I come from a small town and not many get to do this.”

Householder is confident he can play a key role in the program at Marshall.

“I’ll bring energy and will come to work every day,” Householder noted. “Speed, being aggressive on the base paths and causing havoc is my game. Hopefully, I’ll have a good stick and do a good job tracking balls in the outfield.”

It has Householder excited about what lies ahead at the university located 41/2 hours from home.

“I’m looking forward to going into a brotherhood, meeting new guys and playing great ball,” Householder concluded. “There’s a lot of great baseball in the SunBelt. I’m excited to meet some amazing people and some amazing guys.”
