HILLIARD - Andrew Endres made an impression on Ohio University during the summer and the Hilliard Davidson junior was eventually given an offer from the Mid-American Conference school. “They like my pitching style,” related Endres, who took the offer after going on an official visit to the college in Athens, 90 minutes from home. “I have a low arm slot and natural sink to my fastball. I’m tall and lanky. They see a high ceiling for me.” OU pitching coach Tim Brown initially saw the 22nd-rated 2025 right-handed pitcher in the state in person during a round robin event in Columbus. “I had a good performance and he started following me,” Endres reflected. “He’s friends with my coach Andrew Westbrook. I ended up going to a camp in July and got to know them. We talked on the phone after Aug. 1 and I went on an unofficial visit. I liked the campus and kept talking with coach Brown before going on an official visit. I loved the vibe, got an offer and accepted. “I love everything coach Brown had to do and say with pitching,” Endres continued. “The throwing program, the mound, what he said about me and pitching.” It was just last year that the 6-3 180-pounder discovered college baseball was something he wanted in his future. “Coach Westbrook got us invited to fall camps and after that I knew it was what I wanted to do when I got older,” Endres related. Improvements followed for the 65th-ranked 2025 in Ohio. “I hit the weights a lot and gained weight,” Endres noted. “I was the skinniest person. The weights really helped my velo. I also worked with Mike Stafford on pitching.” High school coaches Justin Swallie and Brooks Hutton are also credited by Endres with benefitting his development as well as assisting in a recruiting process that was good and bad. “At first it was light, but as time went on it was a little stressful,” Endres explained about his recruitment. “PBR did a good job if coaches were not at games getting out stats and posting on Twitter. Coach Brown saw the PBR reports when he wasn’t there.” Once a commitment was made the stress was gone according to Endres, who turned 17 on Aug. 30. “It was amazing,” Endres related. “I felt a lot of weight off the shoulders. I was relieved to know the school and program I was going to be going to after high school.” Business is one major being considered by Endres, a 3.6 student at Davidson who understands what needs to be done to make an impact earlier rather than later at Ohio University. “I need to gain weight and muscle and get my velo up,” Endres explained. “I need to work on my offspeed, that will benefit me, and also work on my defense making the routine plays.” Confidence is certainly there when it comes to what Endres believes he can provide the MAC program. “I hope to help bring a championship,” Endres said. “I’m going to work hard to be the guy they want to put on the mound. I want to be a guy that they cannot NOT put out there and play.” There is more that the high school junior sees in his future at OU. “I’m looking forward to making good friendships,” Endres concluded. “I’m ready to work hard, be competitive and get at it on the field.” |
