MEDINA - A “late bloomer” by his own estimations, Scott DiMarco is now a college commit to the University of Cincinnati.

“They saw me throw at a tournament in early August and I threw well,” the Medina Buckeye senior related. “After the game they called and invited me to a camp on Aug. 24. I performed well again and they reached out and gave me an offer.”

DiMarco found what he was looking for in a college program.

“The coaching staff I really liked,” explained the 47th-rated 2025 right-handed pitcher in Ohio, who also took visits to Akron and Ashland. “I liked the field, I liked the facilities and I liked the campus a lot.”

A boost in velocity proved beneficial for the 6-3 185-pounder.

“Last summer I was sitting 80-83, topping at 85,” DiMarco noted. “I worked hard in the offseason and had a velo jump to 92 in the spring and coaches took an interest. The Top Prospect Games helped me a little, but I didn’t perform well. Then I started going to camps and that was it.”

Admittedly, it was not long ago that the 148th-ranked senior in the state was uncertain that college baseball was even in his future.

“I’d thought about it a little, but last summer I really didn’t think about it much,” DiMarco said. “When my velo went up that changed my opinion. Before I was thinking of going for an education and maybe play baseball. But baseball was a second thought to education.”

Improvement was a difference-maker for the 17-year-old.

“A friend’s dad owns a gym,” DiMarco said in reference to Greg Cravatas. “I put on weight and got a lot stronger using it. Without him I would be the player I am now.”

A weight gain from 160 last summer to 180 in the fall to 185 now helped the cause and Cincinnati took notice.

“They like the way I pound the strike zone,” DiMarco related. “They think I can develop and kind of took a chance on me.”

Coach Brian Bores, his parents and Travis Dean are credited with playing important roles in his baseball journey.

“Travis is a player, but he’s like a pitching coach to me,” DiMarco said. “He’s super smart about the game and has really helped me with my mechanics.”

The hard-throwing right-hander is hoping to make more strides in his game with the idea of making an impact in the Big 12 Conference program at Cincinnati.

“I’m trying to develop and be the best player I can be,” DiMarco explained. “I’m always gonna work my butt off and I’ll see where that takes me. I’m going to bring a strong work ethic.”

A major in actuary science is the plan for DiMarco, a 4.5 student ready to do his best at UC, which is located 31/2 hours from home.

“I’m excited to get an opportunity to go and prove myself,” DiMarco concluded. “I’m excited to build connections with people, the coaches and the players. I’m ready to win with a good team and win with a fun team.”
