Cameron Anderson RHP / West Clermont, OH / 2026AMELIA - There was a time that Cameron Anderson struggled with the game of baseball. “Confidence was the big thing,” the third-rated 2026 right-handed pitcher in Ohio related. “The biggest thing that helped me take the next step was that I stopped comparing myself to others and put myself first.” Improvement followed and now the West Clermont junior is a commit to the University of Cincinnati. “This time last year I thought I’d be a D-I recruit, but I wasn’t going to take anything for granted,” Anderson said. “I had to put the work in. This past offseason I put in more work than ever before. Everything my pitching coach and high school coach told me I used those tips to build myself up. From there, everything just happened. “With the new rules, I’m hearing people are interested but you don’t know. When Aug. 1 came, it was a busy day for me. After that I wanted to build relationships before making a decision.” Auburn, Missouri, Notre Dame, Purdue and Ohio State were some of the schools the 127th-ranked 2026 RHP in the nation was talking with, while Wright State, Akron and Toledo offered. “The majority of the schools I talked to saw me at the Future Games,” Anderson noted. “Everyone saw my slider as my best pitch and that my fastball had good metrics. They also liked how quick I moved.” In the end, it was the university located just 25 minutes from home that proved to be the right one for Anderson. “They identified me as a recruit last winter and came to high school games and saw me in the summer at the Future Games and other tournaments,” Anderson reflected about coaching staff with the Big 12 Conference program. “We began building a relationship after Aug. 1 and they made an offer a couple of weeks later. I went on a visit Sept. 21 and ended up taking the offer the next day. I really loved the time with them. “Everything they align their goals with align with mine, and I love the coaches,” the 5-11 165-pounder added. “They’re really knowledgeable and I love the culture there. It’s a good place to play and build relationships with players. It’s the best fit for me.” There was assistance along the way in making it happen according to the ninth-rated 2026 in Ohio. “Pitching coach Greg Williams was probably the biggest piece of my recruitment,” Anderson related. “My high school coach, Dave Collins, also played a crucial part with confidence and the mental aspect. As a pitcher you have to have that. “Prep Baseball really helped as well with the Future Games. It was a good environment, not only to get in front of coaches but to learn from the people around you.” Once Aug. 1 hit, decisions had to be made and the 16-year-old is thrilled with how it all turned out. “I really like the culture there,” the 413th-ranked junior in the country said of Cincinnati. “The coaching staff is down to earth and really good people. The campus felt like home. Staying local is important to me with family and friends able to see me play. I’m just excited to get to UC.” Anderson, who carries a 4.1 GPA at West Clermont and plans to major in health science or psychology, has high expectations about what lies ahead at college. “On the baseball side I’m looking forward to learning from people that have been playing college baseball for three or four years, as well as learning from the coaches,” Anderson concluded. “From a student aspect, I’m excited to be on a college campus and meet new people. “But for me the biggest thing is the relationships I’m going to build with my teammates and coaches. That’s what I’m most excited about.” |
