Velo Jump Sparks Interest In Wadsworth's Kubilus

WADSWORTH - A jump in velocity has Nolan Kubilus out on the recruiting trail.

“It began about a month ago, a little after the recent PBR,” the Wadsworth junior said in reference to the IVL Scout Day event in mid-February. “I’ve always wanted to play, I just haven’t been in communication with schools.”

The 6-1 192-pound right-handed pitcher is now after his fastball was clocked at 88.

“In August I visited RPP (Rockland Peak Performance) and was evaluated there,” reflected Kubilus. “They gave me a program to follow and I’ve seen a good spike in my fastball. When I went there it was 83 and recently it’s 88. I also feel much quicker.”

It has the uncommitted 2021 moving out of the “sleeper” category according to PBR Ohio Director of Scouting Jordan Chiero.

“He is one of the bigger stock risers of the winter, making a big velo jump up to 88 mph with two playable secondary offerings,” pointed out Chiero. “Once baseball gets going again, he will be one of the more scouted arms in the state.”

Virginia Military Institute and Indiana University-Kokomo are the only schools that have been in communication with Kubilus.

“Neither have the major I’d prefer to do,” related Kubilus, who is looking at industrial design or graphic design as fields of choice in college.

It has the Wadsworth RHP looking for more options in an effort to obtain his goal of playing at the next level.
