Unsigned Senior Spotlight: LHP Garrett Gable (Aurora)
November 4, 2011
Garrett Gable, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound prospect from Aurora is an under-the-radar left-handed pitcher in the Class of 2012.
Recently, Gable participated in his first showcase when attending PBR’s Miami Valley Open Identification Showcase in Xenia, Ohio
Due to a quickly developing growth spurt and associated arm soreness, Gable did not log many innings this spring and summer. In most games, he was limited with by a small pitch count.
As a result, the big left-hander, who shows three effective pitches, has all the makings of a late bloomer.
Gable, who uses a ¾ arm slot, has an athletic, solid build. With long, easy arm action, he delivers a 77-80 mph fastball with arm side run.
His curveball, which is his most effective off-speed pitch, has 1/6 movement and fluctuates between 65-67 mph. He notes, “My most effective pitch is my curve ball. Batters have a hard time with the change in speed. The late tight break makes it hard to pick up and even harder to it.”
In addition, his slider, which is thrown with near the same arm speed as his fastball, shows at 70-71 mph.
While he was limited this spring and summer, Gable learned many lessons, both on and off the field. He says, “I had learned that there are ways to improve my game, and I believe that I can become twice the pitcher that I am today.”
As he starts the recruiting process late, Gable says, “I am looking for a school with a wide variety of educational programs and a competitive program.”
Right now, he is hearing from Wright State, Centre College (KY), and Ashland University.
Later this winter, Gable will be attending PBR’s Unsigned Senior Showcase in Columbus, Ohio.
