Austin Hall, C, Wheelersburg HS

Last spring, the Wheelersburg baseball team made it to the State Semi-Finals.  That is when Austin Hall started to make a name for himself.

The senior catcher has been garnering the attention from several Division 1 schools and Division 3 powerhouses.  Such as: Dayton, Morehead State, Marietta, Appalachian State, Bowling Green, and Heidelberg.

In February, Hall attended PBR’s Unsigned Senior Showcase.  Here is what PBR had to say:

Tall, athletic prospect that registered a 5.09 40-yard dash. Behind the plate, he shows quick arm action and good footwork. His pop time registered between 1.94 to 2.13 with a top velocity of 77 mph. At the plate, the right-handed hitter sets up in a slight crouch. He has a simple swing with an easy load. His quick bat speed helps generate consistent line drives and the occasional pull power. 

After attending the PBR event, Hall said “I believe that this is the best and well ran showcase that I have attended. The showcase did expose me to some coaches that may have not seen me in the past. Altogether it is a must attend showcase that I would recommend to anyone wanting to put their name out there.”

At 6-foot-2,185-pounds, Austin may be the best catcher available in the class of 2012.  He is hoping to make his college decision by the beginning of this season.

When choosing his college future, this is what Austin is looking for athletically and academically.

“I would like to play in a program with tradition, strong competitive nature and urgency to win games. The caliber of the program and coaching staff are very important to the decision but ultimately it comes down to academics.”

During his junior year, Austin put up some impressive numbers offensively: .341 batting average, 30 hits, 30 rbi, 7 doubles, 9 stolen bases.

His 3.2 GPA helps him bring many strengths to field, but Austin believes. “My biggest strength as a player is being the leader on the field from behind the plate. This ranges from letting my teammates know where they should be, calling pitches and simply picking my teammates up when needed.”

This summer, Hall can be seen behind the dish for the Chillicothe Capitols.
