Sloan Ulrich LHP / Solon, OH / 2020Rankings StateRank: 72 / POS: 9
SOLON - A broken hand before the high school season brought some doubt to Sloan Ulrich when it came to his college recruitment. “I was confident I would get to the level to start getting Division I offers, but then I had a setback with the hand,” the Solon senior reflected. “But I got it out of a cast a month before the high school season so I was able to throw. “I was happy the way I was playing in the spring and summer, but I started to get nervous not talking to as many schools as I was hoping.” An offer did come from Akron at the end of the school season before contact in the summer took place with Miami, Ohio U, UNC Charlotte and Pittsburgh. Then Ulrich, whose velo hit 86 at the Ohio Top Prospect Games in June, found what he was looking for in a school when Indiana State came into the picture. “They first saw me at a Brownlee Showcase the middle to end of summer,” the 72nd-rated 2020 in the state related. “They said they liked what they saw there and what I had to offer and wanted me to come on a visit.” The trip to the Terre Haute went well for the ninth-ranked senior left-handed pitcher in Ohio. “It’s a great town and I really liked the campus,” Ulrich noted. “The coaches were great. It seemed like they were already putting a plan together for me on what to do over the next four years. “They also have a strength coach, and one of my biggest goals is to get stronger. I like his nutrition program and how he develops guys.” |
